How often do you weigh yourself?

I go through periods where I'm constantly weighing myself, and then periods where I hide from the scales.
I'm a very healthy weight but get really depressed about gaining even a kilo and sometimes they just seem to add on out of nowhere.

Never. I judge by how my clothes fit.

CrickityCrickets · 01/03/2025 10:28

Daily and I feel bad if I don't lose any.

Titsywoo · 01/03/2025 10:28

Very rarely. Doesn't help and I can tell by my clothes if I have lost of gained any significant amount.

TheAlertFinch · 01/03/2025 10:29

Never.

Friestogo · 01/03/2025 10:30

Never. I don't own a pair of scales. My weight is not important to me and I refuse to let a number on the scales dictate my mood and how I feel about myself. I go on how I feel in my clothes and how I feel in myself.

Do my clothes fit nicely? Am I happy with the way I look? Do I feel comfortable in my own skin? If the answer to those three is yes then great. When it becomes a no I will make some changes to my lifestyle until I do.

Besides our weight can change due to hormones, how much salt we have had in our diet in the last 12 hours, how much water we have consumed, and a number of other things so its not always representative of what we really weigh so why get so hung up about it?

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/03/2025 10:30

I weight myself most days. I stopped doing it for a few years and put a huge amount of weight on. I was using the “judge by how my clothes fit” method instead and that was a complete disaster. I’ve realised that being tall means I can put quite a bit of weight on without it really affecting the fit of my clothes (especially as so many clothes are loose fitting these days).

So now I’ve got the weight off again and keep a much closer eye on the scales.

MsPug · 01/03/2025 10:31

I sleep in pjs and like to weigh naked first thing so let's just say cold morning winter weighing is a lot less than warm summer weighing

CeeJay81 · 01/03/2025 10:32

About twice a year. I no longer have scales cause it really affected my mental health. I became obsessed with my weight and it took over my life. Now I only do it when staying with a relative. I still go by my appearance though and how my clothes fit, so still keep an eye on my size.

Rhymetimegopo · 01/03/2025 10:32

I went from a size 14 to a 6 a few years a go and have maintained. I never once measured myself. I don't want to get obsessed over it so clothes size is fine for me.
I don't even know what I weighed at my heaviest and still have no clue now. After Christmas I felt my jeans felt a little tight so I just reduced my calories for a few weeks and that seemed to help.

When the doctors hassle me.

Never

AuntieMarys · 01/03/2025 10:34

About twice a year out of curiosity.

princesspadam · 01/03/2025 10:35

Every day

CheesePlantFeet · 01/03/2025 10:38

A couple of times a week. I put the number in a graph. I look at the trend line over the past couple of months. If it's flat, that's fine. If it's going down that's good (I'm a stone overweight). If it goes up, I need to make changes.

Dropping or gaining a little weight day to day is meaningless. It won't be fat, it'll be undigested food or water, caused by where I am in my cycle or if I ate rice yesterday. Or when did I last use the loo, or the time of day, or is my hair wet...

TheycallmeStaceytheycallmeherthatsnotmyname · 01/03/2025 10:41

Never, like other posters I have no scales. I’ve always have a healthy BMI and go to the gym 3 x a week, do yoga/tai chi and walk an hour a day. My clothes tell me if I need to cut down a bit.
Over the years I’ve noticed I had developed an unhealthy relationship with my weight and scales. If I weighed myself on a particular day and I was a pound or two heavier than normal I would really restrict my calories. I would then feel miserable so I decided to throw away my scales about 5 years ago. I feel much happier not weighing myself

I could have written this. At 5’10 I can be a size 12 whether I gain or lose nearly a stone. OK, at the extreme end my trousers don’t fit as nicely - but I’m still in the same clothes.

I weigh myself every day as soon as I get up (well, of course I have a wee first) as it’s the best way for me to be stable.

Echobelly · 01/03/2025 10:47

Never unless I'm losing some weight - I never dieted until my mid 40s, and try to keep my weight under 9.5 stone, which means I usually spend a few months a year doing 5:2 diet. But I only weight myself about once a month because it's a slow method and weight can fluctuate a lot week to week.

I did a 1200cal a day diet at one point, where I did weigh myself weekly but didn't find it all that motivated.

IdaClair · 01/03/2025 10:49

Also never, I don’t have scales or any reference point for how much I “should” weigh.

I did an extreme sport activity that asked for height and weight on the entry form and I had to google average weight for my height and put that on.

Me too, once a week for me.

Cynic17 · 01/03/2025 10:55

Never. I don't own any scales. I'm probably a bit overweight, but so what? Throw away your scales, OP - your weight is unimportant.

Boodahh · 01/03/2025 10:56

Never, unless a doctor makes me . I judge on the fit of clothes.

InMyMNEra · 01/03/2025 10:57

Generally, once a week. Any more, and I become obsessive. Any less, and I gain weight.

The judging by how my clothes fit, doesn’t work for me. My clothes (bar jeans) will just stretch with me and before I know it, I’ll have gained a stone.

Pigeonqueen · 01/03/2025 10:59

Never. I threw out my scales when I realised it was just making me miserable. I know I’m overweight as I get my weight checked at the hospital every year for medical appointments - 14 stone at 5ft 6- but I have a lot of complex medical issues and I try to be as active as I can. I’m not going to make myself feel even worse by constantly weighing myself. I also don’t want my dc to see or use scales in the house.

minipie · 01/03/2025 11:00

I don’t own scales

I get on the dog scales when I take our cat to the vet 😆 so couple of times a year?

Pigcasso · 01/03/2025 11:00

never, my scales do not work
