Please help me with present ideas for DH’s birthday!

It’s DH’s birthday soon and I’m stuck for ideas. He likes reading (but immediately buys books he likes), country walks. Is a foodie which used to be easy but has recently gone on a diet. Likes single malt whisky. Has clothes he needs and isn’t really into aftershave or similar. Can anyone come up with any ideas or things you’ve got your OH that have been a success? Thank you!

A gift subscription for Audible?

If he's a foodie what about a reservation at an amazing restaurant? L'Enclume? Le Manoir?

Even if he's on a diet those tasting menus are lovely and it's a one off.

Things I've bought my dh which have gone down well

Robotic lawn mower
A framed photo of his father as a child
23&me genetic testing kit
Ancestry.com subscription
A case of great wine from Berry Bros & Rudd
Calvin Klein pyjama bottoms
Film t shirts from lastexittonowwhere
Film posters of favourite films (Jaws and Argo are great posters)
Some nights away and a wine tasting at a vineyard
Tickets to art exhibitions
Nights away in swanky hotel

Ooh some excellent ideas here thank you. You’re right, he SHOULD have at least a night off the bloody diet for his birthday!

Does he like music? I bought my Dh a record player. He says it was the best present! Also everyone knows what to buy him at Xmas, birthdays etc.

Audible is a good shout.

Has he got a good coffee machine DH obsessed with his?

Perhaps a voucher for a Michelin star restaurant?

A new set of knives, a new wok, frying pan, omelette pan and utensils (DH has recently gotten into LC ones)?

He also like Maglite torches and Rohan clothing.

SeaToSki · 28/02/2025 15:57

what kind of single.malt.does.he like and how does he drink it? maybe a tour of the distillery and a night in a hotel close by?

if he likes it chilled (shudder) then some whiskey stones

a nice whiskey glass

There’s different bookish things eg a diary of books you’ve read, vouchers. I’d suggest a photo album of special photos but I did that for dh and he doesn’t look at them!

SensibleJaneAndrews · 28/02/2025 16:06

Oh this is brilliant. Knives and other kitchen equipment would be totally his thing, and a nice whisky glass is also an excellent idea.

Does he have a kindle? If not, could one of those be an option? I know some people like to actually turn pages of a book so it's not for everybody, but I love being able to instantly download a book and be able to take several with me on holiday with minimal luggage space.

If he already has a kindle, a Kindle Unlimited subscription?

My DP likes a bottle of Talisker whisky. A nice whisky glass to go with it.

What about one of those cookery classes where you get a grazing plate and loads of drinks along the way. There’s a fe options in my city, one does pasta, pizza or canolli (I’m planning on getting my husband a voucher for this for our first wedding anniversary)

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/03/2025 17:45

Any walking with alpaca places around you? If you can find one that does day walks, with lunch, he might enjoy it.

BIWI · 02/03/2025 17:46

Subscription to a food magazine? Good Food or Olive are very good.

Oneearringlost · 02/03/2025 17:56

My son gave me a six month subscription to Mr B's Emporium. It's a book site, where you are given a 'bibliotherapist' (!).
You register, and they kind of 'take a history' from you by asking you some questions about your lifestyle, favourite authors, best book you've ever read, how your friends might see you, etc...
Then someone chooses your book, and it's a surprise!
I'm expecting my first one tomorrow.

Hi op bought a pair of these glasses for my boss Norlan a bit pricey but very nice .

Norlan

As a curve ball saw an amazing leatherman tool and knife set in Costco which I want for my own birthday. It’s just a beautiful thing.

My husband also likes Audible he enjoys listening to a book whilst driving in the car or when out for a walk etc.

Fridayfeeling77 · 04/03/2025 07:51

A good quality head torch is a gadget he uses sometimes too.
