You wake up in the middle of the night and your thoughts go round at 100mph, usually a very overwhelming feeling.

Then, possibly after a little sleep, when you are fully awake, those same thoughts that were causing worry or distress don't seem so huge any more?

I call it wake dreaming as it feels like, to me, that is your brain processing what it should be doing in a sleep state but instead it's doing it consciously or semi consciously.

I wonder if there is a proper term for it.

Nocturnal rumination?
Middle of the night anxiety?
Twilight state or hypnagogia?

For me, yes it's definitely anxiety related but it's the fact it is amplified at night when I'm awake and then doesn't feel anywhere near as bad when I'm fully awake, almost as if it's my brain sorting through it to make sense of it when I should be asleep,

I have this nightly. I'll wake up thinking I need to do 1000 things. What ifs etc. Morning I'm like nah sod it. It can wait ill just do what's needed.

I've just started magnesium as heard this can help.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 28/02/2025 20:36

I get this! I get it on repeat all night sometimes
So pointless.
