I've got an interview!!

Help me stop panicking! Long term sahm basically because of DC with SN. I've been applying for over a year and constant "you've no experience" or "someone else fits the profile better" or "you're over qualified" replies. Phone call this morning offering me an interview, despite having none of the industry experience they asked for. Not only that, about half an hour later I had another call inviting me to interview 😮😮

Interview 1 next week, highly academic, and I've been out of it for a loooooong time and forgotten so much. I only applied because linked in said I was a good match! I've no idea if I can actually do it, but need to convince myself I could! I've always been far worse at interviews than applications too. And it's on Teams. Any tips? I only ever video call relatives! I assume I can access it on an iPad through Safari? Anything I should know - is Teams user friendly and obvious what I'll need to do? I've never used it before and won't be able to try it out beforehand.

Yes you can use Teams on an iPad via Safari. Well done! It would definitely be worth practising first if you can find someone to set up a Teams meeting beforehand.

Prepare as much as you can. Take a look at some YouTube videos on interview techniques and make sure you prepare some questions for the end of the interview.

Good luck

Congratulations!

I really would try Teams out beforehand, so your can get you iPad nicely positioned (try and have a blank wall behind you, or you can blur the background in Teams, or use a pre-installed pretend background).

And you don’t want to be worrying about Teams when you need to concentrate on your interview!

You can install it from the App Store into your iPad. It’s free for personal use. Then you can get a family member to do the same and have a trial call.

For the interview, they will email you a link to join at the time of your appointment.

Think about some good examples for questions - they will probably ask ‘Tell me about a time when you xxxx’. Look up the STAR format for your answers. Don’t be afraid to have notes to hand. You can stick them behind your iPad so you can see them, but it will just look you are looking into the camera!

Good luck 🍀

Thank your for the tips so far. Do you think I'd be better using a very old laptop or using an iPad?
