No gallbladder question?

I have had my gallbladder removed because of gallstones. I am really conscious of weight gain now it's gone and my digestive system has had a massive change.

This might seem a silly question but I've tried to do my research but can't seem to find an answer. My question is, am I more likely to gain weight taking digestive enzymes or not? I have purchased some but I am scared they are going to make me more likely to gain weight.

I of course know your eating habits are what causes weight gain and I'm not planning on eating bad, I just want to try to help myself the best way I can re my weight loss journey.

Thanks for any help and advice.

I'm not sure why you would need digestive enzymes. When your gallbladder is removed it does take a while (months) for your body to adapt but eventually your small intestine takes over the job of digesting fats.

My husband is actually losing weight post surgery.

@Crispynoodle nearly everything I read online re life after gallbladder removal recommends taking them.. I hadn't heard of them before but since doing research it is on a lot of forums recommended to take.

I had mine removed 30 years ago! - and have taken no enzymes nor anything else. I have not put on weight.

TTCbaby2x · 27/02/2025 10:43

@Mischance have you ever struggled with trying to lose weight since having it removed? Or is this not something you've tried to do? I understand not everyone wants to lose weight so if this isn't relevant to you please ignore haha..

I had mine removed about 15 years ago, I haven't changed my diet, certainly, nobody even mentioned enzymes; although I will bet online forums selling them recommend them.
My weight hasn't changed substantially, and I am healthy.

I have lost some weight recently, I did that by cutting out between meal snacks and sweet things, also reducing processed carbs.
