Would you ask for more at the breakfast buffet?

My parents are staying at a hotel and complained that the breakfast buffet isn't very good. My dad then said actually the porridge was quite good but that there was barely any of it left and hardly any fruit.

I thought they should have asked the staff to refill the porridge and fruit but he would rather not eat breakfast than do that! Am I weird to think that it's expected that a breakfast buffet should be refilled? It's not a small hotel and they're not eating right at the end of the breakfast hours.

Have done in the past and they've got more of what we wanted.

I would definitely ask for more food..... especially if its a buffet. That should be topped up regularly....

Of course it's fine to ask and it should be refilled but some places don't bother restocking if it's end of buffet period soon which is quite cheeky really.
Some people feel awkward about asking for stuff and they would rather suffer the situation than confront because while the request could be received well and the problem rectified sometimes it leads to even more awkwardness or discomfort that it's just not worth the hassle. There are people who think that if this is your job surely you would notice and do better it's on you to notice and fix it so if you haven't perhaps there is a good reason or it's hopeless with you! In which cass there is no point in asking becauss you should know and deal with it yourself without others needing to ask.

Some people are not shy and just blurt out whatever they want and need but others are more thoughtful to a detriment perhaps.

Yeah absolutely I’d ask, sometimes they’ll only top up the things that are running out but if the staff hadn’t noticed and ask.

I'd ask, my DH wouldn't. He's annoying though, would moan but not do anything to change it Confused
