Cat rant!

In order to balance out the dog hating threads I just want to say I am so pissed off with the amount of cat shit in my front garden.
The weather has been so wet we’ve not got on to the small front garden until yesterday and there is cat shit everywhere.
We live in a street of detached houses with driveways but almost all of the neighbours have paved over the whole of the front garden. It’s not really possible to fence my bit of garden and certainly not to cat proof it.
I am going to plant more aromatic plants to put them off.
I know shit happens but my dogs are not left outside, rarely bark and are not a nuisance to anyone. There’d be uproar if I let my dogs shit on the cat owners driveway.

As a cat owner I find it appalling how many cat owners don’t provide litter trays for their pets. Our cat has an outdoor tray so she doesn’t go in neighbours gardens and she also has an indoor litter tray too. It pisses me off when there is cat shit in my flower beds from other peoples cats too op.

Since the garden is small, you may be able to deter cats by using twine to create a "cobweb" across your garden, with the twine wrapped around short pieces of bamboo poked into the ground and pulled taut. Cats dislike having to step between the pieces of twine, and there isn't much space between the strings to toilet, so you might find this is enough to put them off (see photo).

Mine have an outdoor toilet too! I wish all my cat owning neighbours would also get one. They are such a great idea. Mine refuse to go anywhere else.

Ours are indoor cats with a catio, we have cat litter trays inside and one out, I know it's expensive but I really think it's the best way to own cats.
They don't like citrus scents op so maybe add some peels to your boarder?

TheNuthatch · 26/02/2025 16:48

Yes same here op. Drives me insane! They also regularly kill or badly injure the garden birds.

I tried the citrus peel under a cat favoured shrub on one side of the drive but I think it’s driven them onto the garden. My next door neighbours have indoor cats but others have roamers.
I will try the twine and aromatic shrubs plus more citrus peel too.
