With this one, doesn't say whether this was an XL Bully

There’s been an attack local to me, 84 year old man.

Wolfiefan · 25/02/2025 16:01

Court case has taken months to go through. The other may not be an XL bully. At the time the breed specific legislation came in many people said it wasn’t a particular breed. It’s dreadful unregulated breeding and owners. We were shouted down.

caramac04 · 25/02/2025 16:25

At least 2 of those attacks the dogs had escaped from the house they lived in. The victims could have died there and then and the 84 year old man may yet not recover.
I am an absolute dog lover but these dogs are genetically predisposed to aggression.
I doubt the owners could have done anything once they were in attack mode. The law has not gone far enough. The first attack was by an unregistered dog and another at its address. I’d be interested to know if illegal breeding has occurred or was planned.

I think anyone who owns a dog that kills should be tried for murder. You don't walk about with a loaded pistol, the sooner the owners are properly punished the better.
I love dogs had them all my life, but christ these animals are dangerous. Not the dogs fault they can't help being what they are. It's the low life fuckers who breed and abuse them.

YourHappyJadeEagle · 25/02/2025 16:33

There has to be a cull so these dogs (XL Bullies) don’t exist.
As dogs have to be chipped by law owners should have to pay for a vet certificate stating the dogs breed, or breeds in the case of a mixed breed dog.
Compulsory insurance too.
And I’m a lifelong dog owner.

ohyayy · 25/02/2025 16:44

So many people insist it isn’t the breed and is the owner.

AcquadiP · 25/02/2025 16:48

I've kept dogs for over 35 years, all middle to large size breeds. I have no fear of dogs except XL bullies. I read a report a year or so ago detailing the lineage of these dogs and they are all traceable to the survivors of Pit Bull fights. The survivors - no wonder the breed is so bloody dangerous🙄
And whenever one attacks or kills a human being or a dog it's usually the case that the dog "escaped" from the house. Highly unpredictable, highly aggressive dogs being kept by idiotic, irresponsible owners. What could possibly go wrong?

Mayamemsaab1 · 25/02/2025 17:01

I made a post on mumsnet a while back saying “anyone else just wish these xl bullies would disappear” and hundreds of people agreed. Since then nothing has improved.
This breed should not exist and has no place in society. It’s easier said than done to make this breed somehow disappear, it would probably cause public outrage if there was a massive cull seeing as dogs are practically worshipped in this country.
But I completely agree that dangerous dog owners with dogs that kill should be tried for murder - maybe that would deter people from owning dangerous breeds.
