Do my teeth look good?

Any dentists or orthodontists around? I've been wearing fixed braces for 18 months and just had them taken off. They look way better than they did before treatment started, but I'm slightly disappointed. They still slope inwards a bit - I thought they would be brought outwards - and I can't help thinking the braces were taken off prematurely. It was a big emotional and financial investment for me and I'm keen to get the best result possible, after years of hating my smile.

But maybe my expectations were too high? Maybe this is a good result? Hoping someone can put my mind at rest before I go back in a few days to get my retainers - if it's not a great result I'll have the opportunity to discuss it then.

They look great, what was your before as a comparison?

ParanoidNow · 25/02/2025 15:31

@BlueBlueBerries I don't have a 'before' in my mobile camera roll, sorry (all on my laptop) but one of my front teeth was significantly rotated, and was kind-of crossing over the other front one.

They look.absolutely great OP!

And natural looking, as opposed to the artificially whitened ones you need sunglasses to look at!

Some people do have narrow smiles, I think that’s difficult to change, even with braces. Your teeth look fantastic! Perfectly straight.

Notagainx · 25/02/2025 15:40

They look lovely overall. I can see what you mean when you say they slope inwards. I would ask your dentist and see what they say.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 25/02/2025 15:40

Cracking set of gnashers OP. They look great.

Notagainx · 25/02/2025 15:41

Ask if what you want is achievable.

Howcoulduoudothsr · 25/02/2025 15:44

They look fabulous! Very natural, beautiful

Glowinglights · 25/02/2025 15:45

I think they look amazing!

ParanoidNow · 25/02/2025 15:47

Ah thanks everyone, I feel so much better now! I'm a ridiculous overthinker and have felt so guilty about spending the money on myself (even though it didn't have any adverse impact on DC etc.)

They look good

Heaven forbid you see mine, I have a gap and now I am older they are receding and getting yellowy🙄

WinterCosiness · 25/02/2025 16:12

They look great. I used to have perfectly straight teeth naturally, top and bottom. They moved due to wisdom teeth pushing them, and then I had an accident with facial injuries, and one of my front teeth cracked a bit 😩
I've thought about getting braces to straighten them again. But, it seems prohibitively expensive.
Your teeth look amazing though, so you've inspired me!

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 25/02/2025 16:28

I think you did a great thing, even if it was expensive, it will make you feel so much better! Your smile looks great but there is no reason not to question the dentist about the sloping. I imagine that the retainers, because they are behind the teeth might have some effect, worth asking.
After many years of thinking there were other things to spend money on. I finally caved and had teeth whitening. So glad I did and wished I'd done it years ago..I've got nice teeth, but they seemed to get less white as I aged. Such a small thing but made such a difference - wider choice of lipsticks now too!

BettyButtersBatter · 25/02/2025 16:37

They look really lovely! Natural and a good colour.

ParanoidNow · 25/02/2025 16:40

I will ask on Friday - I'm sure the orthodontist will put my mind at rest.

For the posters thinking about braces, I would say definitely do it, if you can. I'm so excited about not being self-conscious in relation to smiling, and I'm going to wear bright lipsticks that I avoided before as I didn't want to draw attention to my teeth!

Thanks, everyone!

They look beautiful

infertilityivfdepression · 25/02/2025 16:44

I see what you mean about slightly
sloping inwards but it’s not a negative thing , like when some people have a tooth gap and it looks fine ? It’s nice sometimes to see natural variation rather than tippex white turkey teeth ! You have a lovely natural smile and straight healthy looking teeth

littlemissprosseco · 25/02/2025 16:50

Dentist here! They do look lovely.
In order to get rid of the inward slope as you’re calling it. You orthodontist would have to create much more torque on the teeth, to push the crowns forward. This would temporarily create some quite large gaps. Then to close the gaps and maintain the level of slope you’re talking about would mean pulling the roots backwards though your upper bone. This would take ages, probably cause a significant amount of root damage, and probably wouldn’t be a stable result.
I think you have a good result

zingally · 25/02/2025 16:58

They look lovely!

My only observation is that the bottom front two look slightly crowded, but barely!
Loads nicer than mine!

OtherS · 25/02/2025 17:11

It's difficult to really tell as the pic's not totally straight, but it looks like the left side is slightly sloping? But the rest looks great. I was told having braces as an adult isn't always going to get a perfect result as you can end up loosening teeth if you push them too far. I can't imagine anyone is going to think there's anything at all wrong with your smile, but if you're overly worried by the minor sloping you could ask about composite bonding. I had much more severe sloping than you plus an open bite and was ready to spend £5k on braces, instead I had 6 teeth bonded and they look great. Should cost max £400 per tooth.

MaggieBsBoat · 25/02/2025 18:44

Oh op I think they are beautiful!!🤩

the inward thing as you put it will be about the actual width of your actual jaw - my daughter had to have hers both widened with braces quite young, but what you actually have now is perfect, white, beautifully aligned teeth. Rest easy! Smile with pride (I know what a big thing this is, I couldn’t get this with mine)

ParanoidNow · 25/02/2025 19:58

I'm so relieved, thanks everyone. These replies have given me confidence - especially from @littlemissprosseco as you're a dentist! And @OtherS I definitely don't want to loosen any teeth! Is composite bonding the same as veneers? I have to say I was tempted by veneers but the idea of filing down healthy teeth to cover them with veneers freaks me out for some reason. It did seem like the faster, aesthetically better option though.

Your teeth and smile look great. Remind me of the Princess of Wales! Was this just done via your dentist or somewhere like Invisalign? I too have front teeth that are crossed over.

Olika · 25/02/2025 20:03

You have beautiful teeth.
