Feeling v low and panic attacks

Can I get some quick advice? For the last three days I’ve been feeling incredibly low and am having hot flushes and panic attacks about five or six times a day.

I’m 49, nothing has happened to trigger these off. Today I’ve started thinking my children are better off without me. I hate even typing it. I don’t know where this is coming from.

I know I’m in Peri menopause, not taking HRT yet. I don’t really know why this has suddenly started happening. Help!

I think you should make an appointment with your doctor, and I would definitely discuss hrt. I had very high anxiety, (and rage), which hrt helped with. Also, do the obvious things, cut back on caffeine, get lots of excersize, which you already know.

HRT will really help, I was shocked at how awful I felt from mid-40s. Im 51 now and have been on HRT for 4 years and most of my symptoms have eased - not gone completely but definitely liveable with. In saying that, this last weekend I had horrible anxiety attacks and felt exactly as you feel now, Peri is a rollercoaster and I assume my hormones are having one last rave before giving up!

Go and see your doctor or the menopause nurse at your surgery.
