If you have a supering bed do you have two single mattresses or one big one?

If you have two singles does the join annoy you?

Trying to decide what to do. DH thinks having two single mattresses will mean we are less likely to disturb one another when moving around.

I would opt for a super king mattress, the joint of 2 singles would be prominent.

I have a super king, I don't live with dp, but when he's here it's fine, and when he's not its lovely to starfish in the whole bed, I can't imagine 2 singles would be comfortable or stop anyone moving around.

we always have the two single variety and love it. But we also have two single duvets so it’s not normal that we move towards each other under one blanket and then feel the joint.

Ours is a single mattress, about 2m x 2m. I think if you had two, they would need to be zip-linked to avoid/reduce feeling the gap that inevitably forms.

Pottedpalm · 24/02/2025 14:56

We have two singles that zip together, luckily as a superking mattress would not have fitted up the stairs when we moved. The join has never been a problem; we have a thick mattress topper.

2 singles. Ours are Emma mattresses so the edges are v soft and we don't notice them.
Otherwise every time my husband turns over it wakes me up!

We have two singles joined and I love it. Couldn't be happier. I wanted to sleep next to DH but not be so disturbed as he's very restless when he sleeps. It's fantastic. I never, ever roll on to the join. The single mattress is more than big enough for both of us (and we're not tiny people).

Redrosesposies · 24/02/2025 15:00

One big mattress that now has a mound in the middle. It's quite a firm mattress though so when DH and I shared it there was virtually no movement. It was more the rolling over clutching on to the duvet that would wake me up.
Separate rooms now so I have it all to myself😉

Hmm, we were thinking of tempur mattresses and they don’t zip together. I’m worried that if there is any space around the edge of the frame we might find a gap opens in the middle

You can put a super king mattress topper over the mattresses, which both holds them together and pads out the join

We have a superking zip and link. Like any other mattress each single mattress has that piping around the edges both at the top and the bottom. The actual zip is on the side of the mattress not on the top. There are 2 zips, both below the piping on the side of the mattress you zip together that hold the bottom and top of the mattress together. When they are zipped together you cannot see the zip, it is hidden, just the piping. It is not an easy task to zip them together. I unzip them to rotate the mattress every six months but ours are bespoke, made in a mattress factory, we are lucky to have a shop that makes them on site, and obviously unbranded and full of natural materials, so very heavy.

It is sublime because you don't feel the other person roll over or bounce the bed. We do have a mattress topper on it though to protect the mattress and that is like a flat pad that lies on top of the bed but then on top of that we have a mattress protector so a quilted fitted sheet.

If you go for 2 singles, just have a permanent base sheet over both of them to hold them together. Our bases are 2 single divan bases that use 3 C clips and it locks the bases together.

We've got a superking mattress but two single quilts.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 24/02/2025 16:40

One big one

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 24/02/2025 16:43

Is it possible to have zip and link mattresses but on a standard bed frame, rather than a divan?

Iloveeverycat · 24/02/2025 16:51

I have 2 singles with a thick topper on top.
