Do you still print boarding passes / AirBnB confirmation / train tickets etc?

Random question... currently doing online check-in for some flights and wondering if I really need to print the boarding passes? In theory I can do everything on my phone but... When we last travelled (Christmas) I did print everything and take it with us, but didn't use any of it as everything was available on my phone and it was much easier than faffing around with paper copies.

Do you still print these docs off and carry them with you when you travel?

I do like paperwork, if I a, honest, but I am gradually going over to having boarding passes on my phone, we have down this for our last few trips. Seems to be efficient, accessible off line for boarding passes. I think most airlines will be going down this route completely soon. jet2 make it really easy, you can check in online for your outbound and inbound flight before you leave home, why does TUI still not allow you to check-in until two days before & you can’t check in for your return flight at the same time, and have to do it two days before whilst you are on holiday, makes no sense to me whatsoever, sorry to derail the thread!

No. You don't need to and it's better for the environment not to.

You’re worrying about printing out a recyclable boarding pass because of the environment, when you’re about to get on an aeroplane?

I don't understand people who keep important things on email or in the cloud.... not everywhere has WiFi or coverage. Stansted Airport for example.
I keep tickets etc on my phone but only if they are downloaded and therefore easily accessible

Am l missing something here? What puzzles me about this thread, which l have previously contributed to, is people seem to overlook that in most cases it’s a matter of choice.

If someone chooses to use their phone, perhaps with another electronic back up, fine. If someone chooses paper docs, that’s fine too.

As far as l can see, with the exception of the recent Ryanair announcement, the choice is yours. There is really no need to decide what others do.

If I'm traveling internationally, yes - both the flights and any other confirmations for use during the trip, because I don't know what reception will be like or if I had a problem with my phone it could be a pain to sort out.

Day trips within the UK not normally. Though I normally email copies to everyone else I'm going with so unless I'm travelling alone, if for any reason I can't access them on my phone, there's a backup anyway.

NeedWineNow · 26/02/2025 09:07

Yes, I do. DH doesn't have any apps on his phone, so everything is on mine. I'm like others in that I like to have backup in case of problems, plus the fact there have been occasions where I've been asked to produce a printed copy when travelling.

There may be lots of reasons to choose hard copies. But you do not need phone reception or wifi on your phone to view them.

Well that depends on the ticket provider and how I'm accessing it.

But you need a working phone. I also travel solo.
In the event my phone was lost, stolen or broken I would much rather pull a piece of paper out of my bag and get on with my flight than have to queue to get it reprinted,or try to get someone else to access my pass on their device.

Same risk as if your bag had been lost or stolen surely??
