Elected c section

Hello. It’s really early days but I had a traumatic emcs for dc1 (after 4 days of labouring). I’d really like to consider an elective c section this time. I can’t go through what happened last time again. Do you have to have a valid medical reason for an elected c section? Or does it depend on nhs trust? How early do they do c sections? I’d be scared of going into labour early (dc1 came on due date… eventually)

You can choose a section for any reason, given you had over before it'll be very straight forward to request another. They'll likely just get a consultant to chat it all through with you. My understanding is that you'll get a date for around 39 weeks so will know a week or two before then :)

If you go into labour naturally you can just request a section and go in as an emergency x

I'm in a similar situation, in that pregnant with my second after a traumatic first birth ending in forceps. At my first midwife appointment I said I wanted a csec for this birth. Midwife said that was totally fine, I've since had a "birth reflections" type appointment and have a meeting with the consultant booked it. I'm 27 weeks and so far have found no one has discouraged me from a csec.
If you didn't have a birth reflections appointment after your first, I would recommend this no matter which route you decide to go down

Thank you. That’s reassuring.

And oh really I didn’t know that you could request emergency c section if I went into labour. That’s interesting. I’m in London and the hospitals are crazy (although probably they are everywhere) so no idea if that would be allowed or not if really busy.

thanks

Thank you. That’s a relief. That’s interesting about a birth reflection type app. Definitly didn’t have one of them.
