Holiday must haves help please

It's a grey, rainy day and I've just booked my summer holiday, so am dreaming of sunnier times. Last year, there were some things I didn't have that I thought would improve our holiday, so would be very grateful for any recommendations.

A waterproof pouch/bag that I can keep my phone and bank card in when we're in the sea - do such things even exist?

Water shoes for paddling on pebbly beaches. Or would Teva sandals be better?

Something to stop my hair going frizzy on the beach and in the pool. No idea what this might involve!

A really small, thin but good towel that I can stick in my bag on days we go for a walk, in case we find a little cove and want a paddle.

A card game or small travel game that's suitable for two players.

Any ideas really appreciated!

I made myself some big zipped satin pouches last summer - one for swimwear, one for knickers and one for socks. I assume packing cases are similar to that.

Bandana for your hair, roll it onto a thin length, then tie it at the back of your neck so the front looks like a headband.
A hat, bucket type, cloth, so it doesn't take up much room in your bag, it'll keep the sun out of your eyes when you're reading and keep the sun from beating down on your head (I got sunburn along my parting once, very painful)
If the towel is just for you, buy a cheap cotton sarong (ebay) you can tie it to the strap of your bag, then use it to dry yourself

If you forget a travel adaptor or need extra places to plug devices in then check the TV in your hotel room, they often have USB ports and you can plug your phone directly into that to charge.

Just back from a short trip to Spain with DD and the things I found particularly useful were:

Or here if you want to avoid Amazon

Thank you. I was hoping for a real life shop. I really miss real life shops!

Thanks for the other ideas here too.

Any more recs for waterproof pouches or games for 2? Thanks!

Big pegs to keep your towel on the sunlounger.

My must have is a foot hammock for long haul flights. It's the only way I can sleep.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/02/2025 07:01

Thanks for these.

It’s only really the stuff in the OP that I’m looking for specific recs on, but hearing about other stuff is interesting too.

Definitely microfibre towels.

I'm not generally a fan - I would never use a MF towel in the UK when swimming at a pool or after the gym because having to 'dab' just irritates me.

When you're abroad and the sun/warmth is doing most of the heavy lifting anyway though they are really fantastic and fold up into tiny spaces. I generally have 5 in a normal sized beach bag when we're abroad and it's like carrying nothing.

Dock and bay towel

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/02/2025 16:49

Thank you. I’ll have a look.
