Air Tag question

Without too much info first- if an Air Tag is put in a location is it 'on' or 'active' all the time or can it be switched on and off by the owner?

My phone has alerted me to the presence of one today for the first time but I have been in the location (with the same phone etc) many times previously.

Were you with other people? Maybe the AirTag was with them?

They’re on all the time.

AirTags usually only alert if they’re travelling with you. The user can trigger them though if they’re lost - they’ll message the nearest phone I think.

do you have AirPods? They are also “AirTags”. We had to get family sharing as every time we were in the car with the kids we got alerts that an AirTag was travelling with us. It was their AirPods 😂
