Is Jodrell Bank worth a visit?

I've posted this in chat too.

Thinking of booking a night in Chester, exploring the town a bit and going to the zoo with my 9yo.

Wondering if Jodrell Bank is worth a visit while we are over that way?

I can remember going on a school trip (many years ago). Is there much to see/do?

I didn’t find it worth the money tbh but was a few years ago with similar age DS & slightly younger DD. The Ellesmere Port boat museum is good on a nice day.

Go to Crocky Trail instead.

We went last year, I thought it was great. Denise Coates has funded a really good discovery centre there so it’s much more interesting that it used to be, when you were basically just looking at a giant telescope.

Chester Zoo is fantastic, much better than London zoo imo.

Thank you.

Crocky trail looks awesome, we had something similar nearby.

If you are trying to do the town, zoo and Jodrell Bank in one day you won't manage it. The zoo on it's own is a full day. And Jodrell Bank is about 50 mins away from Chester itself

It's been a few years since I went but I think it was a lot of reading. If your child is really into that sort of thing and can cope with the reading then yes it's worth a visit.

My kids were really into it so loved it.

You do need to be into it though

Thanks.

So what I was thinking is head there in the morning. Go to Jodrell Bank, then head to Chester, where hopefully we'd have booked a hotel in the town centre.

Get up the next day and do the zoo.

I loved Jodrell Bank ( which we expected )

what we didn't expect is how much DH would love it too

Its pretty awesome

My kids aged 10 and 14 found it incredibly boring unfortunately. I think if your kids are into it then fine but if not I wouldn’t bother. They did love Blue Planet Aquarium though. Crocky Trail is also worth it too.

We went in 2023 - it was interesting and my son enjoyed it as it featured in Doctor Who a long time ago.
We won’t be rushing back but I think it’s worth a visit while you’re in the area. There was some really nice areas for a walk in the sun.

Reminds me of the episode of the Royle family when they mentioned that Dave's parents had stayed at Joddrell Bank for two weeks for their holidays and had found the second week a bit samey. I think Barbara wanted to go to the Bermuda Triangle and Denise wanted to go to the North South Divide or Yves Saint Laurent
