Anyone want to join me in a March "glow up"?

Getting ready to emerge from wintery clothes and comfort food and wanting to look better, I feel it's time to sort things out.
Starting a bit before March to give myself 6 weeks to lose a stone and sort out my skin and hair, I'm doing the following -

Eat nutrient rich food
No snacking
Daily walk
15 minute daily weight workout
Daily skin care and moisturising
Haircut
Weekly face mask
Weekly hair mask
Foot mask

As well as that I'm starting to declutter and want to read instead of being on my phone at night.

I'm in too. Also have a holiday early summer and would like to feel a bit better for it!

I don't need to lose any more weight but I lost it pretty unhealthily and seem to have lost all my muscle too, so I'm aiming to do 3 strength based workouts a week (may increase but don't want to set an unrealistic goal!).

My calcium was flagged as low too @WearyAuldWumman I've been taking prescribed supplements for a couple of weeks now- when I remember. I have a chronic health condition so it's hard to distinguish what aches from that/new exercise/deficiencies!

I'm aiming low to start with so I don't get overwhelmed..
Take my supplements every day (calcium, vit d, biotin).
3 workouts a week
2 walks (think I'll go straight after the school run)
Refill and drink my big water bottle every day
Something self-care based 3 times a week- keeping this option quite vague as it'll be different all the time.

Eventually I'd like to add in food/drink based stuff but, starting low..

I had an ok day yesterday - got over 10,000 steps in me my meals were bang on… but I nibbled on the kids dinners, and a packet of mini eggs may have been opened 😬

Britneyfan · 25/02/2025 11:41

@Cathy31 @GameOfJones I may join you in the Shakti mat thing! Have had the advertised to me for ages and am curious! But yeah expensive for something you don’t know will definitely help so the Amazon type sounds like a good idea, have you a link to the product you bought @GameOfJones ?

LavenderIsland · 24/02/2025 23:42

@thinkofablinkingnamewoman there was meant to be a smiley face there! It sounds like I'm telling you off. Sorry it wasn't meant to

Ha ha no offence taken!

AdoraBell · 25/02/2025 13:14

Yes please 🙏

I’ve made a small change, eating vegetables or salad before cards. Have to go out will write more later.

GameOfJones · 25/02/2025 13:52

Here you go @Britneyfan ! It looks like it's come down in price since I bought it. Like I said, I'll probably upgrade to a proper one as this is only a cheap thing but a good way of finding out whether it's something you'll use.

Hi all. Hope all have had a good day

Kept to my eating window with much healthier food

Did an exercise class last night.

Supplements done

Did a few admin tasks which were niggling

Have got an unexpected day off tomorrow so I will be doing full on pampering tomorrow (after a few power hours in the morning getting all the yucky boring chores done). Footner has arrived so perfectly in time for tomorrow too.

Keep going everyone.

MummaMummaJumma · 25/02/2025 19:25

I’ve stuck to my calories today 🥗
Painted my nails a lovely lavender 💅
Fake tanned so I look like I’ve returned from the Bahamas ☀️
Got all my facial bits together 🧖🏼‍♀️
And when I finish work, instead of scrolling, I’ll be reading a chapter 📖

I’m going back to the gym next week! I’ve put it off for too long 💪

Keep up the glow up, ladies 😘

I painted mine yellow to make me feel springy ☀️. I bought myself a new set of spring themed gel polishes for my birthday and they’re lovely!

It was my birthday yesterday but I still did my power half hour, took my supplements, drank plenty of water and did my skin care. I did eat plenty of cake and chocolate which is actually good for me as I’m borderline underweight.

Off to do my power half hour now having taken my supplements. Does anyone else get thirstier the more water they drink??

LavenderIsland · 26/02/2025 08:26

@MummaMummaJumma you can be our poster girl 😊
Great to hear how everyone else is getting on

I'm doing my skincare daily
I got my eyebrows done
Got my hair trimmed
I've been walking every day
The rosemary oil I ordered for my hair arrived
I'm eating better though need to cut the carbs a bit more.

Still to do -
Masks. I haven't done any yet though I have them
Weights exercise. There are so many good short workouts, just need to get on with it.

@LavenderIsland any idea what workout you're going for? I'm having a rest day today- Monday I did a Grow with Jo (realised I'm ridiculously uncoordinated) and yesterday a GrowingAnnannas- this was a HIIT dance one and it was intense! Trying a few til I find one I like!
I keep seeing really good ones on TikTok but they make it look so easy!

Aurora791 · 26/02/2025 08:38

What a great thread! So inspiring to read all these posts. Can I jump on board? I’ve fallen into the standard full time working mum of young kids slump and have utterly deprioritised myself. I have a big work thing abroad at the end of March so would love to be feeling more fabulous about myself by then so I can walk in feeling confident with my head held high.

Money is tight at the moment, but I have a cupboard full of posh lotions and potions I never have time to use, so plan is actually start using them. Then I’ll aim to maximise online workouts and my gym membership, get out for a walk every day on the days I work from home, and prioritise wellness through reading or sewing in the evenings (basically anything to stop me doom scrolling!).

LavenderIsland · 26/02/2025 08:43

@NahThen
I found this one during the pandemic and I really like it. She has a nice voice too.

And it's only 10 mins for a good workout

GameOfJones · 26/02/2025 09:50

Yesterday

1 hour of yoga
Had a bath and did a hair mask
Read 5 chapters of my book
Kept to my eating window
Organised the food cupboard

WateryBottle · 26/02/2025 11:54

I did really well yesterday! Ate healthily, did my physio exercises and used a really nice body cream that I’ve been saving for God knows when after my shower.

sounds like everyone is smashing it! @GameOfJones yoga makes you feel so good doesn’t it?

WearyAuldWumman · 26/02/2025 12:47

So...not doing as well as everyone else, but for today:

Saw my dentist about a niggling pain. Nearly waited until the end of March for my check-up, but glad that I went: the x-ray shows that the root filling is beginning to deteriorate. I can't remember when it was done and it was so long ago that the dentist couldn't find it on his electronic record. (I've been attending that practice for 45 yrs!)

Choices: leave it; extract it; attempt another root filling plus crown. I opted for the last...but the first available appointment is June! I feel a bit miffed - I switched from NHS to private patient in order to ensure that I could get appointments (selfishly) and non-mercury fillings.

Repaired to a favourite café for a cooked breakfast: a bit naughty, but I'm trying to build up my iron and vitamin D, hence the black pudding and eggs. (My excuse, anyway.)

Took my Seven Seas vitamin supplement when I got home. Will be heading out to my exercise class this evening - some cardio, resistance bands and light weights. I was horribly unfit when I started the class last year. I can't do anything about my arthritis, but I'm trying to build up my muscles while I still can. (I'll be 65 this yr.)

Got confirmation of my hair appointment via text: will be having my hair cut and coloured next week. It's currently a mix of very dark brown and grey streaks. With no artificial colour, I'd look like a badger...

Remembered to use moisturiser this morning.

peachescariad · 26/02/2025 13:39

I'm in - big 60th birthday holiday in 6 weeks and want to 'glow!'
Currently on a 6 week osteoarthritis support gym clinic at local hospital so get to use lots of strength training equipment twice a week.

Taking high does omega-3 fish oil.
Try to remember to take high strength Vit D every day.
No wine Monday to Thursday ( hard!).
Upping water.
Going to continue to have SNS nails done every 3 weeks as a treat.
Smaller portions at dinner.

I'm lazy with skin care especially at night 🙄

WhatIsCorndogs · 26/02/2025 16:37

Managed to do a decent amount of strength training and stretching yesterday! And I went for a walk today in the sunshine with my husband. Dentist tomorrow. Definitely having a self care week.

Tempted to book myself into a salon for some skin refreshing...maybe a professional haircut since I usually cut my own!!

lilybloom2 · 26/02/2025 16:50

I have removed my make up every night for the last week and today avoided cake at work.
Tomorrow I'm planning on a face mask

goingdownfighting · 26/02/2025 19:19

So today was a bit rubbish. Had a monster migraine last night with a horrid migraine hangover

Did some dermaplaning and a hydrating face mask and had a hot bath which helped immensely.

I'm currently on a webinar with my footner on.

Then painkillers and bed.

Will tentatively try IF again tomorrow and try and get a walk and fresh air.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/02/2025 22:22

Today has been productive!

I did my power half hour.
Drank tons of water and 2x green tea.
Took my supplements.
Did my skin care and tried out facial massage for my horrible smile lines.
Choreographed half a pole dancing routine for my next showcase (in June 😂).

I’m on 9958 steps though and in bed with a brew. Do I get out and do 42 steps or write it off? 😂🙈

I’d like to do more reading especially when DH is away for work but I looked at the book selection in the supermarket yesterday, got overwhelmed and left with nothing! Does anyone have any recommendations?

Justhere65 · 26/02/2025 22:31

I’m in! It has been a long winter and I have let myself go.

Justhere65 · 26/02/2025 22:33

roseymoira · 23/02/2025 09:50

Oohh yes me!

Skincare sorted, just need to be consistent.

I started weekly hair masks a couple of months ago already.

Exercise is where I fall down massively. Going to try and do a work out three times a week. Nothing major just a 15 min YouTube one. Daily stretch routine for my bad back.

Any foot mask recommendations?

Have you looked at ‘Grow with Jo’? She is on YouTube.

GameOfJones · 27/02/2025 07:47

@WateryBottle I appreciate yoga more and more the older I get. I think it's one of the best things I do for my body. I only do a weekly class at the minute but my physio has suggested I also do 5 to 10 minutes every day now my back is in better nick to keep on top of it so I'm going to start doing that too.

Yesterday wasn't too great on the glowing up but I did take my vitamins and got my 10k steps in.
