How does someone on a supermarket salary obtain so much in savings?

YourPoisedFinch · 22/02/2025 12:53

I have £20,000 in savings, £15,000 currently in an ISA and I have around £72,000 tied up in stocks and shares etc..... how did you obtain all this on a supermarket job?

OP posts:
IHateMozzies · 22/02/2025 12:56

Save?

RainSpainPlane · 22/02/2025 12:56

Don't you remember how you did it? I'm so confused!

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 22/02/2025 12:57

Eh?

Changeissmall · 22/02/2025 12:58

Why are you talking to yourself?

Sportacus17 · 22/02/2025 12:58

Inheritance ? Are these your savings or
not?

madamweb · 22/02/2025 12:59

Is this a rhetorical question? Or do you have split personalities?

AgnesX · 22/02/2025 12:59

Parents input, partner input, live on a shoestring, are older and have been saving for a while, live in council accommodation which is cheaper....

There are a lot of reasons someone can have savings.

seaduck · 22/02/2025 12:59

This quote bizarrely is from a thread I also read on Reddit this morning but I am sure the person with the savings also said both their parents had died and they had inherited from them, so not really sure why OP is asking here about it.

peudhrk · 22/02/2025 13:01

You've taken this from Reddit where he literally explained he lost both of his parents before the age of 30 and has inherited. Is it your comprehension that's the problem or are you trying to cause some kind of debate?

ChangingHistory · 22/02/2025 13:01

Over how many years?

I am amazed by how much my stocks have gone up.

Start saving young!

FairyBlueEyes · 22/02/2025 13:03

What you talkin bout, Willis?

Beenaboutabit · 22/02/2025 13:06

Well done!

The power of spending less than earnings, time and compounding interest/dividends/rising stock market.

It is possible to get rich slowly this way if you have the ‘luck’ of staying healthy, staying in work, having healthy relationships with others, and not investing into a stock market crash or shares of companies that go bankrupt.

Bloom15 · 22/02/2025 13:09

Don't YOU know??

MinnieCoops · 22/02/2025 13:15

Is this a riddle?

theboffinsarecoming · 22/02/2025 13:20

Well now, @YourPoisedFinch according to your post on another thread, you have an MSC in economics, so you would surely know the answer already.

One suspects that this thread is nothing more than a goady attempt at getting posters to say that those on a low income are the architects of their own misfortune, and if only they worked hard and educated themselves, they would be as smug and successful as you are.

I could be wrong. But I doubt it.

Wobblemonster · 22/02/2025 13:21

Lots of people who started working in supermarkets 30+ years ago have made good money via share schemes. My mum and several of her friends have benefitted hugely and were all mortgage free at an earlish age (cheaper house prices helped) with good savings pots.

I doubt many young supermarket workers will be in the same position unless they climb the ranks or have financial support from someone else.

Riapia · 22/02/2025 13:21

It’s a well known fact that anyone fortunate enough to have a job in a supermarket is able to invest a minimum of 25% of their salary.
Supermarket employees are among the top earners in the country. Gone are the days when they were paid peanuts. They wouldn’t be seen dead shopping in their own stores, they have much higher standards.
😉😁😁.

titchy · 22/02/2025 13:22

Oh. This poster again.

Diningtableornot · 22/02/2025 13:22

I don’t know @YourPoisedFinch , how have you done it?

Allornothing9 · 22/02/2025 13:23

The responses on here have me rolling 😂

YarkYark · 22/02/2025 13:24

Are you talking to youself in the mirror again?

theboffinsarecoming · 22/02/2025 13:25

How would someone as complacent as you are get to buy food without all those low-paid people in the supermarket logistics supply chain?

theboffinsarecoming · 22/02/2025 13:29
