How does someone on a supermarket salary obtain so much in savings?

I have £20,000 in savings, £15,000 currently in an ISA and I have around £72,000 tied up in stocks and shares etc..... how did you obtain all this on a supermarket job?

Are you talking to yourself?

I don’t know, maybe you pilfered the tills?

Charlize43 · 22/02/2025 14:45

Shoplifting? You're in the right place for it.

Is this a trick question?

Half a day's bonus as the CEO?

theboffinsarecoming · 22/02/2025 14:50

@MolkosTeenageAngst I wouldn't bother giving this thread any credence. 😂

Well since it seems your motive is to shit talk low income people I’ll tell you about the woman I know who has worked at the same grocery store for decades, since high school.

Early on she bought a home in the most expensive area here, its been paid off for years now and she also has a little trailer in a nice lake area (I’m american, I think you call these static caravans?)

She never married, worked hard and was careful with money. i think at some point midlife she did inherit money from a grandparent but she was already a homeowner by then and was doing well financially.

over the decades she moved up and got regular pay increases etc. It’s not a sentence of poverty to work in shops 🙄

I presume you mean NMW? Some earn high salaries working for the likes of ASDA FYI.

lifeonmars100 · 22/02/2025 14:56

If you are the supermarket CEO I would expect you to have considerably more, better buck your ideas up!

Side hustle doing sexy Only Fan pictures in the stock room, the most alluring possible of locations. Obviously…

with yellow stickers added for extra titillation

allwillbe · 22/02/2025 15:00

Depends area you live in, nu of
children you have, what
your partner if you have one earns, whether you rent or have a mortgage- daft question as so many variables

Ahsheeit · 22/02/2025 15:01

You been talking to my idiot, fantasist brother?

Bumcake · 22/02/2025 15:05

So you’re saying that I work in a supermarket and you have all my money?

pearbottomjeans · 22/02/2025 15:08

Could be any number of things, so much so it's pretty pointless asking. But since you did: side job (or supermarket is the side job perhaps?), inheritance, investments, lottery, savvy saving...?

You know supermarkets aren't solely run by those on the shop floor? I'm sure the CEO's salary is pretty hefty.

Oatta · 22/02/2025 15:09

At what age did your DP/DH become a boring middle aged man?

Mine has just turned 36 and describes himself as a middle aged man! I’m finding him really boring. Everything is grey and a bit lifeless if you know what I mean.
Im a year older and still feel young and full of life. Definitely not ready for a slow quiet life.

An answer as unfathomable as the equestion

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/02/2025 15:12

Staff discount. Saves a lot.

SofaSpuds · 22/02/2025 15:13

Well, no. 1 I don't have it, and no. 2 I don't work in a supermarket.
How did you do it?

Oh I like this answer!
I am the CEO of the supermarket, that's how 😁

Kahless · 22/02/2025 15:15

What?

Bumcake · 22/02/2025 15:15

Saved £5k a year for 20 years?

FeathersMcgraww · 22/02/2025 15:19

The same as literally any other job if your outgoings are less than your incomings - you can just save the rest Confused

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/02/2025 15:27

Where's Adrian when you need him.

Ops wrong supermarket 😆

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/02/2025 15:35

Do you get an extra 5 or so meals from your MN chicken ?

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 22/02/2025 15:44

You are clearly the bloke from our local Asda who had to quietly resign after being caught stealing thousands from the shoots… is that you pal?

AquaPeer · 22/02/2025 15:47

AliceMcK · 22/02/2025 12:57

Save, lifestyle, different priorities.

You think someone on £11 an hour can save £100k by having different priorities to those who haven’t saved £100k whilst earning £11 an hour? WTF?
