Weird coincidence - tell me yours

The weirdest thing happened to me today. I was waiting at an international airport terminal for a family member and getting coffee when I thought I spotted a famous sports player next to me. I spent a few mins trying to surreptitiously look sideways and eventually he got up and I realised it wasn’t him.

I then went to the arrivals gate to wait for family member. About 15 mins later - I kid you not - the actual real life famous sports person exited the arrivals gate and walked past me. It was 100% not the same man from earlier.

Am I insane - or is that an insane coincidence?! I’m sure you'll all think I’m crackers but I’m always looking for a meaning or sign from the universe too 🤣

I'm sure siblings numbers are like this?!

Yes they are now, but never used to be.

For the Welsh/Utah Mormons- MerthyrTydfil was the centre of Welsh Mormonism in the 1840s, and there werea lot of people from the area emigrated to Utah.

When I bought a newish car I traded my old one in. Same make and model and colour. I was parked in a supermarket that I don't usually use and when I came out my old car was parked next to me. The car park was huge and nearly empty. What are the chances eh?

God that gives me the rage!

Empty car park and some moron ALWAYS parks right next to you!

I moved to lincolnshire from Surrey 2 and a half years ago.
I’m now dating someone who lives in the next town to where I used to live. And he used to live in Lincolnshire.
We’ve also been at the same gigs before we met, it was weird to realise we’d been in the same place but not met before a random conversation online bought us together.

When I was about 15 I went on holiday to Orlando with my family. Casually walking round Magic Kingdom and my boyfriend and his family walked past us 🤣 we hadnt been together long and hadnt even told eachother we were going to Orlando. It was very embarrassing and awkward as two 15yo kids we just kind of smiled at eachother and laughed. Until our sisters both shouted 'heyyy isnt that your girlllfrieendddd' and he basically ran away from us all mortified. I still laugh about it to this day.

Happened to me a few times.
I worked in a customer facing role. I'd randomly have a specific customer pop into my head and by the end of the day either they'd called or there had been other contact about them.

I’ve had that happen a number of times, I’ve thought of someone that I’ve not seen for a while and then either the same day or the next I see them. Usually random people who’d I’d have a quick hello how are you chat with on dog walks.

I was feeling very nostalgic after losing my DSis to cancer in her 70s so I googled our old family home. We lived there in the Sixties and moved when I was around 10 to another part of the country. Turns out it had only recently been sold at auction and had not been decorated or updated since we moved out. The wallpaper in the bedroom my sister and I shared was the one my dad had put up when we moved in. The whole house, though nearly derelict, was still recognisable as my childhood home

Bluh · 24/02/2025 16:31

Some of these are fab but too many of them are like ‘I went somewhere and bumped into someone I used to know.’ That’s just life

ThymeScent · 24/02/2025 16:33

Out on my boat one summer we passed by a lovely block of flats and I mentioned that Chris who used to be a member of the sailing club many years ago had lived there /hadn’t seen or heard or even thought about himfor a couple of years since moved away.
Then my phone pinged.
It was Chris who was visiting the area and wanting to go into the club and didn’t have the new code dnd going through his phone to see if anyone could give it to him.
It was completely spooky. He wasn’t a close friend.

I had a hospital appointment last week and it was for 10:30 am. Nothing coincidental about that really, even though I have had several appointments at 10:30 am over my long life.

However, what really made my hairs stand on end was at 10:30am exactly the door opened and the nurse said "Talonz? Talonz please come on through."

Never before has this happened and I actually thought it was impossible. But low and behold, the 10:30 am appointment was on time. Not 29 minutes late, or 54 minutes, or 2 hours and 13 minutes. Bang on 10:30. The chances of that happening again in the next decade must be very low.

From all the library books in all the world DD and I borrow the same one at the same time from libraries over 200 miles apart. We'd never spoken about the book or the author and it wasn't from a series or a bestseller.

Not me, but a school friend who had gone backpacking, and when she got home she told me this. She was somewhere in the Andes (don't remember) and a sort of skirmish between rival bandits or gangs broke out in this small village. There was shooting involved so she went and hid behind a building. While she was crouched there, she felt a tap on her shoulder and nearly jumped out of her skin. She turned round and there was a girl, also hiding who said to her 'Excuse me, but did you go to X High School?' And it was a girl from the year below us.

Once in 3 years, I met one of my students in a park: he has red hair-like me-and a springer spaniel-like mine. The park is 3 miles from our school, so not very close. This morning, I passed him in the corridor and thought ‘I’m hoping to meet him in the park this afternoon’ but didn’t say anything to him because…weird! I drove past one park, nearly stopped but decided to go to the other and guess who I saw!

I’ve met students in theme parks in America, I suppose not too amazing given how popular they are, but a bit surprising to be in a queue for a ride and one of your Year 8s is right behind you.

L0309 · 24/02/2025 21:29

Met a couple (many years older than me) on a bus in Egypt got chatting and it turns out he was one of the firefighters who put out a massive fire that burned down my grandparents home 25 years earlier!

MissAmbrosia · 24/02/2025 22:10

I grew up in the SE and went to Uni in NE where I had a boyfriend from Hull. In my first year, a good friend of mine was killed in a car accident and I went home for the funeral. In the evening, us younger folk met in the pub where I met my friend's cousin - who was a very good friend/had been to school with my Hull BF. It felt very strange when I next met him in Hull.

Mishmashs · 24/02/2025 22:15

I always tell this one - some years ago my parents were on top of a mountain in Oman. Kind of remote, not many walkers. Coming up the trail was another man and when he got to the viewpoint they made some polite chat. Turns out he was my sister’s piano teacher from 30 years earlier when my family lived in west Africa.

Irgyburgy · 24/02/2025 22:19

Daughter had a new debit pin sent to her. FIL texted later that same day to give the number to the new key lock box he’d bought and it was exactly the same. So we went out and bought a lottery ticket with those numbers. And……… no match. 😩

My mum died 24 years ago. When I went through her things there were two newspapers sealed up one was my son's date of birth the other a random date that meant nothing to me or anyone else in the family. 8 years later I met my now dh. He is younger than me as was my dad younger than my mum. He is from the North and I am from the South so we had a long distance relationship at first. Eventually he was offered a job and he moved down South. He moved in with me and started his job on my mums birthday - One day I worked out that we have Exactly the same difference in age to the day as my Mum and dad. I recently started decluttering and found the old newspapers. The date on the other paper is my dh's day, month and year of birth.
He is an amazing husband and I really believe my mum sent him to me!

I just started a thread called ‘Weird coincidences. Then I went back to the Chat home page and saw this thread straight away and that it had like 6 pages of responses, and thought it was mine but freaky that so many people had replied so quickly, then realised it was another thread with a practically identical title. A coincidence about coincidences. My head is imploding.

Here’s my coincidence anyway. Because obviously no one is going to post on mine now!

It was about ten o’clock at night on an autumn evening, and I was preparing to go to bed. I walked into my bathroom, and saw a huge cardinal spider sitting in the bath. I am an arachnophobe, so it had to go. Dh was away, the dc were in bed, so I put out an SOS on my local friends WhatsApp group.
My lovely friend quickly offered to come round and rescue me. Ten minutes later she was in my bathroom going “Ooh that’s a big ‘un!” and scooping up the giant spider. I opened the window, she chucked it out, and then to thank her (and to calm myself down) I opened a bottle of wine, and we sat downstairs in the kitchen for half an hour having a natter.
After she’d gone, I went back upstairs, into the bathroom, and sitting there, not just in the bath but in exactly the same spot was an identical giant cardinal spider.
I mean, WTAF? I thought I was going mad. Had I just imagined my friend’s visit? Had I not just watched her throw it out of the window?
What are the chances that another had turned up in that exact spot, hot on the heels of the first one? We do occasionally get these giant monsters in the house; but it’s like once or twice a year max, and usually elsewhere in the house. They’re not a regular occurrence (or I’d have to move out!)
Could it have just climbed back up the wall and returned to the bath? Well possibly I suppose, but it’s a three story house and the bathroom is right at the top. Then it would have had to cross the dressing room, which is quite a large room, to get to the bathroom, then drop back into the same precise spot. It’s a stretch.
I took a photo and sent it to my friend, saying “You’re not going to believe this, but… you did definitely throw the fucker outside didn’t you?!” She confirmed she definitely had, it definitely fell to the ground.
Then she came back and did the same again. She is a very good friend.

Coincidentally, I picked up a big tegenaria house spider from my bath earlier, to save it from drowning. Didn't know the name cardinal spider before.

A good friend of mine went to Thailand and was on a boat trip where there was one other English couple. They chatted away and mentioned they came from Sheffield, my friend replied that she only knew one person who had lived in Sheffield, who just happens to be my DH who moved down from there to live with me in the Midlands.

Anyway, it turns out my DH used to teach both of the young couple and remembers them well as he was their form tutor.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 26/02/2025 15:37

Once went on holiday in a group of about a dozen people about 30 years ago. One couple fell out with everyone and moved accommodation. Years later on holiday with my sister the couple came into the very same restaurant we had taken a special journey to one evening.

my first birthday after my Dad had died, was driving to work the van in front of me had the builders name across the back doors was the same name as my Dad (a very uncommon name in the U.K.) the next birthday received a new credit card in the post accompanied by the PIN number which was my Dads birth year, the third year on the streets WA someone posted a picture of a letter that had been wrongly delivered with the same name as my Dad slightly freaked me out but was oddly comforting.

My mother was abducted as a mid teen (pulled into a van - 4 guys balaclavas on ) spate of rapes in area
Next thing she knew van pulled over - as she was thrown out she heard one of them say fuck sake that's my young cousin

She never found out which cousin & never reported
