Out with my sister and our dogs she realised that her bracelet had come off. As well as the sentimental attachment it was also hugely expensive (insured thankfully).
We tried to trace our footsteps but of course in the woods we often would go off the beaten track so it was impossible to walk back the exact way.
It's a place mainly used by dog walkers and not that many.
We looked again the next day and found a dog collar complete with tag. We joked around that she could wear that instead.
The collar looked new and I phoned the number on it and a woman answered and gave us her address.
We called round and it was a lovely lady who hadn't been very well and hadn't long been widowed and she hadn't been able to keep up with her dog in the woods and his new collar was a bit loose and had come off but she hadn't seen where!
She was pleased to get it back because of the tag with her details on it. Between my sister and I we said we had lots of dog collars so we would bring some over to her to see if they were a better fit.
She was very grateful and as we said goodbye, she said, 'I don't suppose either of you lost a bracelet?!'
She had found it when she had gone over to pick up her dogs poo and saw it glistening nearby! It wasn't broken, my sister thinks she just didn't do it up properly that morning.
We are talking about a huge area of woodland!
It was one of those feel good days and we have kept in touch with her and have taken her dog out with ours when she had been unwell.
