Funeral

My MiL died this morning - not unexpected she's been unwell for a while but still sudden.

They live a 14 hour flight away and I have no idea what to do about the funeral. DH is going and will stay 4-6 weeks to help his dad. He says they'd obviously appreciate it if we came but it's my call.

Kids are 14 and 10 so old enough but it does mean missing a week or so of school (won't be authorised but we won't be fined either not that that makes a difference). They weren't close as we live so far away, funeral will be very small so I've genuinely got no idea what the best thing to do is?

We were planning to go later in the year so should we just stick to that?

I wouldn’t go, and I wouldn’t take the kids out of education

Four to six weeks is a long time for your bloke to be essentially alone and unsupported after a major bereavement. I’d go and support him. The kids will be fine missing just a week of school.
