Is anything a no go for you, or would you support any course

Whereas an oxbridge degree from 1982 is still an oxbridge degree.
Indeed it is, but in many professions, after a certain length of time it really doesn't matter where your degree is from. I couldn't tell you where the vast majority of my consultant colleagues, including those whom I recruited, went to medical school and don't recall anyone ever asking me where I studied apart from when making small talk at parties etc.
My DH works in a totally different field and is respected as an expert internationally. So far this year he's worked with, amongst other people, various UK government departments, the European Commission, the International Standards Organisation and the United Nations and I don't think anyone has given one single fuck about the fact that his bachelors degree is a 2:2 from...brace yourselves people...a polytechnic. 😱
Yes, a better degree from a more prestigious institution would probably have opened more doors for him initially and made it easier for him to establish his career - I'm not saying there's no benefits - but now all people are really interested in are his knowledge, experience and what he's achieved in the industry. What he does now is only vaguely related to his degree anyway.
Of course young people should think carefully about what they do after school and not just sleep walk into any degree just for the sake of it, especially now it costs so much, but your educational choices at 18 don't necessarily define the rest of your life.
