Hi all, any tech gurus here ?

Ive recently got back onto Facebook, mainly to chat to family, old colleagues etc.

Ive been uploading lots of photos to albums I’ve created , but I didn’t realise that these were coming up as feeds on my timeline! Quite annoying to me , and probably my friends, who are seeing lots of my photos appear! People are saying, gosh , you’re uploading loads of pictures!

Ive been going to an album and selected the add photo option. I assumed the photo went straight into that, but it also appears on my timeline feed.

So, does anyone know if you can just upload photos without it actually appearing on mine or anyone’s feed? I just want the photos to go straight to my albums. So people can look at my album, photos if they want to.

Hope that makes sense ?! Is this possible?

Service privacy on the album to "only me"

Paul2023 · 20/02/2025 20:37

Sorry I’m a techno idiot here!

So if I go to album, add photo and go to my camera roll to select a picture, how do I do it just to me? Sorry if this sounds a stupid question.
This is so the photo just goes straight to my album, not a feed.

Still can’t find it if anyone can help ?

You need to set your feed to only me for those posts.

If you go to create post and under your name there's a little drop down box that shows who can see your posts.. click on that and change it to only me.

gamerchick · 20/02/2025 21:46

You should do this anyway.. public is the default.

Paul2023 · 20/02/2025 23:09

Thanks I’ll try that

OP posts:
RenoDakota · 20/02/2025 23:29

I do this all the time. Put it to private before posting then you can change it back to public afterwards if you want to, without Facebook declaring that on your feed. They then become visible, but quietly.

Paul2023 · 21/02/2025 00:02

Yes, just want the photos stored in albums, rather than be posted as a feed..

OP posts:
gamerchick · 21/02/2025 07:29

They'll still post to your feed OP. It's not like it's private photo storage. Just you'll be able to see it though if it's set to only me

Ah ok, just I’m trying to upload quite a few and didn’t want other people to see them on my feed. I just wanted to put them straight into my photo albums.

Is there a reason that you want to store the photos on Facebook? Maybe better putting them on Google or Amazon storage. Maybe not though as I don't know much. I get my Amazon photos as screensavers on the phone which is nice but means that some very random snaps appear if I don't delete them regularly.

Fitzcarraldo353 · 21/02/2025 08:16

The whole point of Facebook is to share things you upload with your contacts so it's not designed for privacy like this. You can do it but it's not the default.

Like another poster said why are you uploading them to FB if you don't want them seen? Surely an online photo platform like Google Photo would be more suitable?

You can and set to only me so only you can see them. But they'll still be in your feed after posting.

B1indEye · 21/02/2025 08:23

That's what the only me option does, the fact that they appear on your feed if you look at it isn't relevant, no one else can see them.

You may be overthinking, start new album, choose only me, add photos - job done

Sorry I’m not being very clear. I have lots of old family and photos. I want them to go into albums so everyone (facebook friends ) can seem them. I’m uploading alot..

For example I have lots of workplace photos, but only certain people would be interested in seeing them.

Just I wanted them to go into albums ( that people can see) if they want , rather than seeing it all on my feed.

To be clear, are you actually putting them in albums? If not so that then select which friends you want to be able to see each album

Yes they'll see that there is an album but won't see all the photos individually in their feeds

gamerchick · 21/02/2025 08:47

You can't just discreetly put photos into albums. You'll have to change the settings for each one. They'll still go on your feed.

So if you want only a certain few, click on the bit I told you. Choose "friends except" and tick all of the boxes of the people who you don't want to see it.

Paul2023 · 21/02/2025 09:53

Ok thanks all

Sorry couldn’t edit above post.Perhaps only other way of doing it is to add photos to album, then just delete the post afterwards from my feed?

When you say your feed what exactly do you mean? Do you mean when someone clicks on your profile?

I'm still not really understanding the problem, If you set the correct permissions only the people you want to see the photos will see them wherever they look.

What is the issue?

Paul2023 · 21/02/2025 10:30

Ok, I have several albums of photos I’ve just created. I want to upload literally hundreds of these photos, any of my friends can look at the albums if they wish, thats why they are there.

But because I was want to upload so many photos, I just wanted to put them straight into into the albums, rather than it coming up on my friends feeds because there are so many photos I’m trying to upload to my photo albums.

But it seems this isn’t possible, IFSWIM.

No, this won’t work. You’ll just delete the whole thing. I think you are simply misunderstanding how facebook works. It’s for sharing so other people can see. You can set each album so that only certain people can see, but really all this flapping about, just upload your photos and people will just have to deal with being inundated with them temporarily. They don’t have to look if they don’t want to.

No one ever goes to someone’s Facebook page to look through their photo albums without being prompted on their feed. No one is going to be that interested. I think just post them or don’t if it’s too private to share.

But when you upload as albums they don't show up as individual photos.

You put them into the album before you save it and then the friend sees ( or most likely doesn't because of the way the algorithma work) that you have uploaded an album and they can click if they want to see the photos

It really is easy, either you're doing something wrong or misunderstanding how Facebook works

Maybe tell us why you think all your friends are seeing individual photos?

Dueanamechange2025 · 21/02/2025 11:16

If I was doing this, I would upload to the album as only me, when the album is complete, change the privacy to only friends, you will see them on your feed while uploading but no one else will. I don’t think it reposts them to friends when you change you settings later.

Paul2023 · 21/02/2025 12:25

Ok thanks , makes sense
