Singapore.

Maddy70 · 20/02/2025 13:45

Spain now has a booming economy. If you speak Spanish jobs are plentiful

Canada

trainermush · 20/02/2025 13:51

@ErrolTheDragon I already said upthread. Of course there is no utopia and everywhere has problems but i'm not sure they are as bad...

arethereanyleftatall · 20/02/2025 13:52

England

trainermush · 20/02/2025 13:54

One of the highest suicide rates in the world

Outdated. it's reduced since the 90s and it's now only a bit higher than other European countries.

trainermush · 20/02/2025 13:54

and I don't think it's the highest even in European

trainermush · 20/02/2025 13:54

Europe even.

anotherside · 20/02/2025 13:57

Ireland. Easy to adapt (language etc) and a lovely country to live, assuming you can find reasonably paid work. Then five years later and you’ve got EU citizenship if you want it.

SemperIdem · 20/02/2025 13:57

Denmark ideally, but I’m not confident I’d pick the language up well (even at 25).

Germany or France more realistic from an ability to integrate perspective.

whirlyhead · 20/02/2025 13:58

If I were 25 today - Germany. Specifically the tech scene in berlin - great city.

when I was 25 I was living in NZ which was also great so I’m quite happy with that.

Ankhmo · 20/02/2025 14:01

I'd leave this country given half a chance.
London is a cess pit of knife crime and violence. Shit all over the streets and filthy fuckers scumming up the place... Birmingham and Manchester, much the same.. Unless you can afford to live in a little bubble where you go from a nice secure home to a nice secure office, the UK is dire.

Where to go is tough.
Australia seems to have gone bonkers lately.

New Zealand perhaps?

I'd love to live in Japan, but the language barrier would be hard to get over.

Parts of America? Texas?

Hmm..

If money was non-issue, anywhere would be nice. Little gated home far away from the inconveniences of other peeple.
So imma say... Siberia.. Yakutsk is beautiful.

crackofdoom · 20/02/2025 14:02

France.

I did live in Italy at that age, but behind the pretty facade the country just didn't work very well- and sexual harassment was endemic, and the government was appallingly right wing. I don't really know if it's improved much in the last 25 years- certainly the trains have, and health care looks better on the surface, but wrt the government it's same old same old.

A couple of recent tragedies (ponte Morandi, the bus crash in Mestre) certainly suggest that the road infrastructure is still in a terrible state, and the government messaging around the latter accident was certainly reminiscent of the Berlusconi years.

jf1992x · 20/02/2025 14:11

Australia, New Zealand or one of the Scandinavian countries.

WilfredsPies · 20/02/2025 15:06

Definitely the UK. I think it’s the best place in the world.

We have mountains, beaches, countryside and cities all within a few hours. We have glorious seasons and it’s rare that it’s too hot or too cold. There is nothing more terrifying lurking about than one of those harmless brown spiders that scuttle across the floor late at night, or a fox determined to get into your bins. We have museums stuffed to the brim with things we’ve ’borrowed’ from all over the world. We have a wealth of talent in art, fashion, music etc and it’s so exciting to see new generations coming up with new things. I think the British sense of humour is glorious. There’s the odd nutter lurking about but most of us are pretty central, politically. We have decent laws compared to lots of places and we’re a lot more protected than in some other countries. We’re incredibly diverse and I think we’re pretty welcoming to every nationality on earth, especially if they bring their cuisine with them and they’re good at a sport we enjoy.

Yes, we have problems. But so does everywhere else and we have it a lot easier than so many other places.

Loveduppenguin · 20/02/2025 15:08

It depends on what your industry is to be honest.

Hamilton6382 · 20/02/2025 15:16

If you think you can achieve a decent income of well over 100k in a WFH role then the UK is ideal.

You can pay your way out of all the aspects that bring the place down. No need to live in a big city with all the issues that entails. Find a nice small town or village with an immediate environment containing none of the downsides of city life while at the same time being close enough to dip in and out if you need to.

The days of needing to be near big cities for work are gone for many people. WFH is an absolute game changer.

Lampzade · 20/02/2025 15:22

When you have money you can live anywhere ?

Battisborough · 20/02/2025 15:23

It is too general a question with no universal right answer.

A person will be happy when surrounded my like minded people and loved ones and access to activities and events that spark happiness in them. Low tax, the ability to earn more etc does not buy happiness. Money and happiness are only correlated if you don’t have enough money for a basic decent standard of living, above that there is little correlation.

WinterFoxes · 20/02/2025 15:24

DS1 has moved to the States. Not much choice as he was offered an amazing deal there versus almost nothing here. Once this contract is up, he wants to apply for work in UK and Netherlands but his industry in the UK right now is on its knees.
DS2 wants to move to the States. But I think he'd be shocked at the CoL in big cities like NYC. His industry thrives in Italy and I really wish he'd learn Italian and look there instead. Currently in UK but salary is not great.

CerealPosterHere · 20/02/2025 15:26

Maybe Australia or Canada.

USA if not Trump but not currently.

This makes me laugh so much. London is a cess pit of knife crime??? Siberia is a better and safer standard of living.

I mean maybe for small pockets of specific neighbourhoods in London but as someone who has lived in London for much of the last forty years I have never been mugged, burgled or threatened, nor have my children, my extended family or close friends. We live in normal neighbourhoods in London and live very happy lives surrounded my great parks, access to fantastic activities, fun nightlife and lots of interesting people.
