Photo album or photo book - which do to prefer ?

I'm looking to put all my photos in albums or books, arranged by year/holiday etc. I have a hell of a lot to do, it will probably take me all year and will be a good project for me this year.

I absolutely love flicking through the old photo albums at my parents house. I also like the nice photo books too, but these don't quite have the same appeal as the actual printed photos.

What do you prefer - photo album with actual printed photos or a modern photo book ?

We have some photo albums at my parents' house from when I was young, the ones you peel back the cellophane and stick your photo in and put the cellophane back. Only the photos are all falling out now as the sticky bit has lost its sticky - ness. The plus point of albums is you can put in photos of different sizes, but I guess you can do that with photo books too.
We have a few small photo books which are nice to flick through but I'd far rather look through an album, or just a handful of printed photos (I have a pile of photos of my kids at various ages that I need to sort out, they currently are sitting in an envelope).

We have photo books for each year, plus the odd extra one for a special holiday or event.

I like them as they sit nicely in the bookshelves and are a lot more compact, plus I can add types notes, dates and information, etc to them when creating it.

I agree that old albums fall to pieces.

I really enjoy the process of putting a book together online, I take photos of things like tickets (or screenshots of online ones) to make it more like a scrapbook. Takes hours and hours to do well but it is rewarding.
