Taxis - front or back?

Light hearted question. If you're getting a taxi alone do you sit in the front or the back? I tend to sit in the back... makes me feel like a celebrity. 😁

In the back.

No idea why. I just do.

Bs0u416d · 19/02/2025 17:50

Always the back

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 19/02/2025 17:50

I always sit in the back. I hate chatting so it makes it easier. I'm a miserable sod.

Thursa · 19/02/2025 17:51

Front if I’m on my own.

Coffeeishot · 19/02/2025 17:52

I sat in front of 1 today I did it on autopilot the driver was nice enough I don't mind chatting, but I just felt awkward and I should be sitting in the back like a "normal person 😂

Anonym00se · 19/02/2025 17:53

Definitely the back. Why would you want to sit close up to a stranger when there’s an entire empty back seat?

Arrggghhhhhh · 19/02/2025 17:53

The back of course.

sciaticafanatica · 19/02/2025 17:54

In the back behind the driver.
Purely for safety

GoodVibesHere · 19/02/2025 17:55

I've always sat in the back, only one time I decided to sit in the front but I'm sure I sensed awkward vibes from the driver so maybe he thought I was weird for sitting up front.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 19/02/2025 17:57

In the back

Sitting in front is shocking and abhorrent behaviour 😄🤭 (unless as part of a group of course)

GoodVibesHere · 19/02/2025 17:58

Also, I agree sitting in the back has a celebrity feel to it. It's the feeling I get when I go through arrivals after being on a plane, I always feel like I've just arrived from LA Grin

SoftPillow · 19/02/2025 17:58

Back, always the back unless there are 4 passengers, and then only with an unspoken awkwardness 😄

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/02/2025 18:01

Back, Always. I don't want to talk thanks.

Disturbia81 · 19/02/2025 18:06

Back, sitting in the front feels awkward unless in a group.
I once had to sit in the front when on my own as it was a 2 seater car, he didn't talk and it was so awkward.

I did the same as wasn’t used to taking taxis. Driver was polite but I sensed I was encroaching on his space and he didn’t like it.

Normallynumb · 19/02/2025 18:10

Front
I use a very friendly local taxi firm regularly and enjoy a chat.
Never occurs to me to sit in the back

Nousernamesleftatall · 19/02/2025 18:11

The back for safety.

Genuine question, why is it safer in the back?

AllrightNowBaby · 19/02/2025 18:13

In the back, there is no way I would sit in front with the driver.
To me that would be totally weird…

GabbySolisX · 19/02/2025 18:16

The back. Although I always feel car sick in the back, so if it was a bit of a longer journey, I’d politely ask if they minded if I sat in the front. I wouldn’t just assume the driver was comfortable with a passenger getting in the front.

This

I wouldn't have thought drivers want people to sit in the front if it's avoidable

Samung · 19/02/2025 18:17

Aha! I was arguing this one with a friend earlier. I'm definitely sitting in the back, resisting the urge to do special waves like the Queen. 😄
I don't know why the back is safer though? If you were to get locked in surely that wouldn't make much difference? I suppose you'd be in a better position to clobber the taxi driver...

Rarely take them, but when I do it’s in the back. With the exception of if I am in a group and then the front because usually I am (a) the only one who knows where we are going and (b) can be relied upon for relatively normal small talk!

TheChosenTwo · 19/02/2025 18:18

The back unless we are a group that are big enough to need the passenger seat too.
I’ve sat in the front before in those circumstances (and embarrassingly chatted absolute bollocks to the poor driver 🫣) but if there’s no need to take the front seat, always the back.

maudelovesharold · 19/02/2025 18:20

I always sit in the back. The front feels too….intimate, somehow!
