Blackpool and a small dog, friendly?

Hi, I have a chihuahua and we are going to Blackpool.

I'm not sure whether to bring her.

We are not doing the pleasure beach or anything.

Just a walk on the beach, down the promenade, maybe go in the arcades.

She fits in my coat and can be carried around easily (I say that because I've found many places that don't specifically advertise as dog friendly often don't mind a tiny dog that being carried in a bag/carrier vs a large dog on floor) Having said that I would never try to take her in any food establishments or food shops.

Do you think we should bring her or leave her?

She's never, even seen a beach.

I have been to Blackpool a few times. Lots of dogs about. She can travel on the trams and buses too and most cafes also welcome dogs. Test her out in the arcades. They can be noisy. She'll love the beach and stanley park is lovely for a walk .

Thankyou, we are only driving down for the day so I think I will take her :)

Blackpool is noisy and smelly, totally overwhelming for adult humans never mind teeny dogs not known for their placid demeanours.

Leave ddog at home! Or go to one of the hundreds and hundreds of places in the UK with better beaches than Blackpool!

I've been to Blackpool plenty of times and I don't believe any of that to be true!

My dog isn't placid at all! She's a super confident dog!

There's always such snobbery about Blackpool on MN.

It's a great day out.

We go to Blackpool at least a couple of times a year it's really nice round where the winter gardens area and along tge prom.We stay in the Imperial Hotel which is full of history . Bill Clinton, Princess Margaret, and most of the PMs have stayed there- so if it's good enough for them !

We took our two dogs to Blackpool. It was fine. I'd take her!

Redheadedstepchild · 19/02/2025 21:20

Take her to Blackpool! She'll love it. My chihuahua was a bold little thing. Absolutely fearless. I grew up in Blackpool or Cleveleys and a bit in Poulton but when I had my chihuahua I was living in Corsica. Everybody loved her.

They kept quoting Gremlins to me though, even in French. "Don't get it wet!" "Bright light! Bright light!"

Have a lovely time. X

She sounds utterly adorable!!

She used to howl along to this. It must have been something about the frequency that set her off.

Ninnier · 20/02/2025 21:03

Well she loved it!

Wasn't refused entry anywhere. I took a papoose/carrier thing and I'm glad I did as I had to carry her a lot. Her legs are so small and it was a lot of walking.

She really liked the beach. Even got her paws wet in the sea.

Wasn't phased in the arcades at all.

They are very beautiful, I like them very much

Redheadedstepchild · 20/02/2025 21:32

She IS Gizmo's sister! So cute! Your post has made my day. I'm so happy that you had a good time. Paws wet was about the limit in my experience with my chihuahua. We live by the Med but she never wanted to swim.

Tried it once and she had some kind of panic attack. Never really liked having a bath either. "Don't get them wet!"

They're so very bold and fearless. I'm not surprised that the arcade didn't phase her. They'll do anything as long as they are with you. Their loyalty is amazing.

Does she fetch a ball? I bet she doesn’t. Mine never did. She used to watch the the stick or ball fly through the air then look at me as if to say, "Is there something wrong with you? Why did you do that?"

What a grand day out! It all turned out nice! Do it again! X

She does fetch but not balls! You know the little toys you get from McDonalds, like Mr Men or the Grinch? She loves them and will play fetch with those.

She's not a fan of puddles so I was surprised she went near the sea!

I saw quite a few people with Dog prams which I always thought were a bit silly but I would ahve been grateful for one today!

It's Blackpool baby! The Las Vegas of the North. You can do whatever you damn well please. That's why we love it. Dog in a pram. No problem.

A most excellent adventure. Nighty night x.
