Moving out of Cov. What is Rugby like to live in?

So my Husband, children and I live in Coventry, currently the 2nd most unsafe place to live in the UK! My hubby is from Kent and hates living here. As my children are getting older and the more and more crime I see, I agree I no-longer want to live here but also want to live close enough to my parents and friends(40 min drove max).

So we are looking at safer areas woth good schooling. We have looked at crime rates and Rugby is one the safest town in Warwickshire apparently. Warwick, Atherstone and Whitnash also. My preferred choice would probably be Whitnash but doubtful wr could afford what we are looking for. We have visited Ruby a few times and come to the conclusion of Bilton being the best area and the schooling is good, especially with grammar schools being an option.

Is there anyone from these areas that can give more information please.

where do you work? Grammar schools aren’t easy to get into and the other schools aren’t great if you live in Bilton. Hopefully my reply will encourage others!

Is Kenilworth out of reach financially? Excellent primary schools. Decent secondary school.

The grammar schools have a big catchment area so you don't need to live in Bilton to get into the girls grammar school even tho it's in Bilton. Your child would be competing with lots of others from all over.
The villages out towards Leamington are nice, also Kenilworth as pp said.
You need to give more details about work commute, house price range etc so people can advise you better.

Schools are a mixed bag. Grammar schools are excellent, but exceptionally competitive to get in.

it certainly isn’t crime free though.

There are lots of decent areas in Coventry with a wide range of housing, I think it depends where you are. Earlsdon, Styvechale, Cheleysmore, Eastern Green are generally okay if you want to stay near family. Otherwise agree that Kenilworth is nice but expensive and has HS2 ongoing.

We left Coventry 17 years ago as it was bad then, I visit family there and its become so run down you couldn't pay me enough to move back.

We moved to Warwick and now life in one of the villages on the outskirts, state schools are good, theres a choice of private Warwick prep, boys and Kings High and Grammar schools in Stratford. House prices reflect this though. I would say go for it, best decision we ever made.

I'm currently doing an apprenticeship as an SEN teaching assistant which will finish around same time our current mortgage ends so will be looking to work in a school wherever we move to. Hubby works in Cov but happy to commute as he's been used to long travel for work for years as works in automotive industry

Would love Kenilworth but don't think we would be able to afford it as we are looking for semi-detached or detached with good driveway as we have touring caravan, van and car. Hubby wants a big garden as likes to grow our own fruits and veg.

100% don't want to stay in Coventry. We live in one of the better, sought after areas but with new builds and crime on the rise we want to move next year

Price range at present is probably 350k but hubby is expecting promotion and payrise this year, started his own business and by the time we move I will be a qualified SEN teaching assistant to hoping price range will increase to around the 450k. Pur current house should sell for 300-320k.

Another 5 years until my eldest will be heading to secondary school.

I should add, my parents live in bulkington, not cov so moving to leam, warwick, Stratford would takes us a lot further away. Hubby's family live in Kent so already far from them.
Our friends live in Cov
And hubby's job is in Binley Cov but he is happy to commute
