Weird question

Hi,

I want to ask for an opinion. So I (F) work sometimes in a place where there is a guy from my own country (I don't live in my own country) and we did not chat so far. Just hi and where you are from. Now recently he caught me of guard asking me where I am from (home country) , like the city, village, and even checked on Google map the village in front of me and asked me if I live there or there, and what's the street name?! He insisted for some time to find my street. This is very weird. Why would a stranger from work do this? Asking not where I live currently but my family address back home?! He is not from the same city as me.

Does he have any family or friends from the same place? I mean, local to that address; would he have been trying to work out if he knows/knew your family?
If he hasn't a reason like that, I don't know why he would be asking such specific questions. I'd think it's inappropriate for someone who doesn't really know you. And a bit creepy.

Why would you answer his questions?

Cupcakes2035 · 19/02/2025 01:33

that is unusual for the specific street, if they added me eg on facebook etc then id read the profile but as for specifics like that ??

Why would you answer his questions?

This.

True. I like him a bit, but it's intimidating. But I am a quiet girl so I am aware predators sense vulnerable women. I will address this, appropriately in the future in case it happens again.

Intrusive on his part. Overly compliant on your part. Not an ideal start!

Wonderer30 · 19/02/2025 12:19

Yes, it's a red flag. It created me anxiety and could not tell right from wrong. He literally insisted on knowing my address and could not find it. He also asked about some turistic attractions from my village and looked at different street names 🙄

If you are both very much in a minority, he could just be excited to find someone else from your shared country. But he should not be asking you for your specific address. The city and general area is fine as maybe he has friends or relatives there, but he should not be insisting to know the street and door number! If he harrasses you again, please tell management.

Waterboatlass · 19/02/2025 12:41

It's impossible for us to know his motivations OP, in wanting to know your street name overseas. However please work on your boundary keeping and confidence so you're comfortable giving the information you wish to give and no more. How would you like to have handled it?

SexAndCakes · 19/02/2025 12:43

You don't have to give any information to someone who is making you feel uncomfortable.

Branster · 19/02/2025 12:46

He's weird to ask so many questions.
Have you escaped from North Korea? Maybe they're after you!
