Photo deleting app - that works and doesn't lose photos

Ok, the quantity of photos on my phone is ridiculous (95k!)

I have tried downloading to my laptop but there are too many. Likewise too many to download to a separate hard drive (I think because I was copying only and not transferring them all over, deleting off my phone). I have a fear I will lose them all.

I have decided (I think) to take the plunge and use an app to whittle down my photos - I do take many photos at a time, so it should work.

Can anyone recommend an app that won't lose all my photos?

Thanks!

I use GetSorted app. It gives me batches of photos and it completely deletes only the ones I say I don't want.

I just looked at that app, but its £20 a year. The way I do it is to put today’s date into my photos app and that brings up all the pics from this day each year. Then I go through and delete them. Its only a 5 minute job so if there aren’t many for today I’ll do tomorrow as well. That way in a years time I’ll have been through them all. Little and often.

@BlunderMifflin and it has never lost any photos?

@SnowflakeSmasher86 Gosh, that expensive. Your way is a good compromise. I just need to stop taking as many from now on!

Highly recommend this, used it for a few years and no issues.

@mooncloud1
How can you see how much apps are (I'm a bit of a luddite)? All I can see is that there are In-App purchases?

Is it always £20 a year?

Ahh I just looked at the version history in the App Store and see they introduced a subscription a year ago. I started using it about 3 years ago and it was free then. It seems those of us who had it then, now have full access for free.

@ginmcginface
Its never deleted anything I didn't tell it to. It's a really good app and if they had made me pay for it I would've done. I like how it tells me I've sorted through over 12,000 photos and removed over 8,000. It splits up your camera roll into months and years and will give you a batch of 50 at a time to go through and mass deletes the ones you've marked at the end of the session. It doesn't permanently delete straight away so if you made a mistake you can bring it back.

I like it because otherwise I would forget where I had got up to if I just selected a specific month in my camera roll. The app keeps track and knows what you've sorted through and what you haven't.

I think it does a free trial if you want to give it a go.

Amazon photos is free - I've got loads on there - maybe not 95k but it's unlimited space.

BlunderMifflin · 18/02/2025 18:04

@ginmcginface I forgot to mention it can't 'lose' your photos because they are all still in your camera roll until it deletes the ones you want it to.
I also just checked my purchase history and saw I actually paid a one-off £3.99 several years ago, it wasn't free, my mistake.

Oh sorry ignore me, I read it completely wrong Blush

@ChaosAndToast join me in whittling them down 😉
