Phone line damaged

The main telephone cable down our road has been damaged by tree surgeons on Monday of this week. I only found this out when I got home on Monday evening at 5 o'clock to a note through the door. Apparently Openreach were due to come out to repair it within 3 to 5 hours according to the note.

Openreach did turn up but only to cable tie the loose wire to the telephone cable not actually repair it!

I work from home five days a week and therefore am unable to work from home because I am internet and phone dependent for my job.

I have been in touch with the tenant who requested the tree Work and been told to be patient and it will get repaired eventually.

However, this has caused further issues because I am due to have Sky TV installed on Thursday of this week (been booked for 6 weeks!) and obviously that now can't go ahead if I have no Internet or telephone connection.

Please can anybody advise what recourse I have against the person who has caused this damage - either the tree surgeon or the tenant who has requested this work because they have inconvenienced me and a lot of people down the lane who are reliant on the telephone and Internet there's also elderly people down our road who are relying on the connection for their Emergency helpline pendants

Grrrr!

TIA

Can you connect by tethering to you phone for now?

I'm not sure about the rest of it though I'm afraid x

Do you know who the tree surgeon company is? I wasn't clear whether the note was from the tenant or the person trimming the tree.
Surely they need to take some accountability?

Are you the only house affected by the power issue?

@HelpMePlease74 I could as a short term solution but this doesn’t help with the sky installation nor other people down the road.

there is no way of getting in touch with Openreach to get a timescale - they just say contact your supplier. But as the issue is not with my equipment my supplier can only send an engineer to check my hub. My hub works fine…but only if the phone line is in place obviously.

really frustrating!

Get onto you Internet Service Provider and explain the problem ask for their advice and follow up by email. They may be able to provide a dongle for the days the outage is in place. You should also push for a refund.

@IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal the note is from the tree surgeon. I had to turn detective to trace the company he gave. They said they've done all they can do reporting the damage to Openreach. They told me the name of the person who they carried out the work for and I found him this morning following a little bit of searching/ questioning. I called him to be told I'll have to be patient!

Did you the phone line reconnected @4cats1dog ? Were you able to let your employer know that you had no service?
Fingers crossed it's on its way to being resolved now.

Sorry for the delay in updating - poorly dog & husband!

The phone line was related on Thursday and all is well so far.

I connect med to my mobile and used it as a hotspot so no issue either work.

Also, the tree surgeon agreed to pay £200 for the inconvenience so win win all round!

Thanks all for your advice Wink
