Amazon US and taxes/ VAT

Hi,

I want to order something that I can’t find in the UK, but it is on sale on Amazon US (with Amazon itself) via the UK site for £42.

I’ve read the terms and conditions and it says something about them adding extra at the checkout to cover some type of import fee and that this will be refunded if if isn’t needed. However nothing is being added at checkout for this item, and delivery is free.

I’m trying to work out if I’ll be charged VAT on arrival or whether this is also included in the Amazon price.

The terms are lengthy and in my peri brain fog state I’m struggling! Google tells me due to being under £120 import fees shouldn’t occur, however it looks like the item price is still liable for VAT - but I can’t work out whether Amazon have included/ pay this.

If I am charged 20% VAT on top, would there also be a hefty ‘admin fee’?

Doe anyone have any experience of ordering with them? Thanks

A little bump as I'd like to know too.

Hey! I’ve ordered from Amazon US before through the UK site, if nothing extra shows at checkout, it usually means VAT is already included in the price.
Since it’s under £135, Amazon sorts out the VAT for you, so you won’t have to pay anything on delivery. No admin fees in most cases.....

The only time I’ve had extra charges was when buying from third-party sellers who don’t use Amazon’s global shipping program. If it’s sold and shipped by Amazon, they collect the VAT upfront and deal with customs, so it arrives without surprises.

Not through Amazon, but I've had an item held by customs and I had to pay some sort of import tax to release it item was about £100 through ebay (a small collectible). Ebay do say there may be taxes to add, but don't say what or how much, I've bought other items from the US with no problem.

Edit: Don't think there was an admin fee, but an annoying delay!
