I am 25, one school DC.

I feel like I don't do anything but scroll on my phone in my spare time. I do like to read too.

Please give me ideas! I'm desperate for a purpose other than being a mum/working.

Swing jive, rock n roll and Lindy hop dancing.

ViciousCurrentBun · 17/02/2025 19:43

Hiking, video gaming, experimenting with recipes, some crafting, Tai chi, cycling, board games.

I have done a lot of dance lessons but cannot currently due to back issues. Namely salsa, belly dancing, ballet and tap. My Mother was a professional dancer when young so taught us ballet and tap at home. Did a few years of goju ryu karate when young. Also used to love climbing trees, climbed my last at 42. Have done cos play and made costumes and props as favours, made a suit of armour once from foam, took me 50 hours.

Did pottery for a few years and took some qualifications up to almost teaching level. Some watercolour classes.

I have tried loads of hobbies, I’m retired now.

Gardening. Good for your soul and your health!

YoureLightning · 17/02/2025 20:08

Running, hiking, drawing and reading. We also foster animals although I’m not sure that’s a hobby but it definitely takes up time. At your age I played a team sport which was great but gave it up in my mid 30s.

I'm glad you've written this, I'm following. I'm out the other side of parenting and have loads of free time and some spare cash so looking for a hobby. I have no idea what I actually want to do on my spare time.

DinoLil · 17/02/2025 20:16

I volunteer for a local charity making hand made cards for people in nursing homes with no friends or family. Gives my crafting fix a purpose!

bellsend · 17/02/2025 20:19

i also have horses so i ride.

CatteryCatss · 17/02/2025 20:24

I go swimming 2-3 times a week.

I love building LEGO sets, but I can’t afford to do this very often as they’re so expensive!

Reading, I aim to read a chapter everyday, but I’ve been slacking this past week or two.

Running x3 times a week, walking and gardening (I love being outdoors!) I also volunteer 2-3 times a month at a cat shelter.

OperationalSupport · 17/02/2025 21:11

Reading, gardening (not through the winter, I’m a fair weather gardener), baking, watercolour painting (I’m not good, but it’s fun and more accessible than my other craft hobby when I don’t have much time or mental energy), dressmaking.
Sewing is my favourite, it has made me more conscious of the quality of fast fashion, and how things fit, and I think given me a better relationship with my body.

Namechangeforthis88 · 17/02/2025 21:17

Kayaking and canoeing, minimum once a week, up to six times a week when there's a lot on. I help run the club so that takes time as well. I've made friends and had great adventures. Great for physical and mental health.

Previously I have done martial arts, community choir, amateur dramatics, allotment, ceroc dancing. I'd recommend any of them.

That’s so lovely. I wonder if there’s something similar near to me…

I enjoy reading, knitting and crochet and dabbling with sewing. I sing in a choir and have a regular Dungeon and Dragons game with friend, with a mix of virtual and face to face meets. My husband and I also play video games (together and separately) and we have a weekly meet up with friends to play games and we’ve recently spent several months playing Baldur’s Gate 3.
