New to Gas heating - flipping hate it!!!!!!

We are new to gas heating have had oil for years and changed over recently. Bloody hate it!!

We have a good sized house 5 bedroom type job so got a 40 w boiler. Our radiators don't get hot! They are warm but it's never hot. The temp has never been above 18 despite being set at 21 and the sun room is freezing constantly despite having great insulation.

This never happened with oil! Plus so far it's costing way more than oil to run! What are we doing wrong. Water temp is set at 40 and it's fine rad temp set for 65. Defo not reaching that.

Any advice please!!!!!!

Are the radiators warm at bottom but cold at top? If so they have air in them which needs to be let out ((you’ll need a radiator key).

Also check enough water pressure in system in boiler.

Probably best to go back to whoever fitted your gas central heating.

You'll need them to check the pressure and the hot water can travel through the radiators. Might be an air lock somewhere.

Yes you might need to bleed your radiators. Also check if the ones closest to the boiler get hotter than the ones farthest away.

We had one which was warm at the top cold at the bottom. We has sludge in the system. Gets boiling hot now.

It is not gas that's the issue, it is that you have an issue in the system itself. It could be - sludge in rads, values not working, rads need bleeding, system needs balancing.... get someone to check all of these issues

Did you get the system washed out when the new boiler was fitted?

But go back to whoevver installed the gas boiler

MaryGreenhill · 17/02/2025 19:14

Got to agree with you OP.
It's much warmer in my house with oil CH than gas .

We paid the have the system flushed out completely when the new boiler was fitted. They are heating the same temp all
Over but they just aren't getting hot enough.
