Wanting to upgrade to newer iPhone. What more recent version 11/12/13 is similar size to an 8?

Just that really.
My daughter wants a newer version of iPhone as her iPhone 8 is cracked and slow.
She doesn't want a big phone so would like to keep it similar in size to an 8.
Any suggestions?
We'll probably buy off eBay secondhand for about £200 ISH.
Thanks

They stopped making the iPhone mini at iPhone 13, so the most recent small 'numbered' iPhone you could get would be the 13 mini. The SE series is also the 'mini' size and the most recent would be 3rd Gen. It's worth loading up the comparison page on the Apple website as you can compare the specs of any three iPhones side by side, depending on what you want from the phone. CEX are good for secondhand phones if you want the benefit of a warranty.

I think that'll be one of the SEs.
I've got a fairly recent one, I think it's 2nd generation but maybe 3rd...

@ErrolTheDragon @SwanOfThoseThings
What would you say is the main difference between the SE iPhones and the regular iPhones, eg 11/12/13?
They are cheaper, does that mean the performance isn't as good?

I don't know, my hands are small so I've only ever had the smaller ones. DH has 'regular' ones, I'm not really aware of much difference other than obviously a bigger screen.

Oh, mine doesn't have Face ID but I'm not sure I see that as a negative, DH wears glasses and finds it doesn't always recognise him if he's wearing different ones or none.

I can't think of anything I'd want a phone to do that mine doesn't tbh.

I have a 13 mini, and it’s still getting software updates. Like your DD, I prefer a smaller phone. It has face recognition on it, and I’m very happy with it. I’m not sure what I’ll do when it dies and I need to replace it.

Yeah, the iPhone 13 mini seems to be rated higher than the latest SE phone so I will probably go for that.

It's always worth getting the latest version that you can afford as earlier versions will stop getting updates much sooner.

Yes, definitely.

The SE doesn't have a screen covering the whole phone surface (it's like the older ones with a strip top and bottom).

It's got a proper home button in the bottom strip

Yes, I prefer that feature.

I’ve still got a 12 mini as I never bother upgrading while my phone is still working well, still getting updates but will change it as soon as it starts to get niggly

Edinvillian · 17/02/2025 19:43

I had an SE, it only has a single rear camera lens so my photos were crap compared to new phones.
