I live in a 2 year old new build townhouse which is fitted with 8 GL-P101 smoke alarms. Since I’ve moved in the one in the upstairs bedroom (I think) has triggered the system with no particular cause 4 times. Usually it stops once it’s been silenced however tonight it’s went off 3 times. I’ve hoovered it and changed the battery and it’s still doing it. All 8 are hardwired and interlinked but I’m 99.9% sure it’s the bedroom one triggering it as the red light is flashing on it every 10 seconds as opposed to every 40 seconds for the others which signals the alarm is working correctly.
I don’t have much experience with hardwired smoke alarms, my previous ones were just battery operated and were no issue at all. I was planning on just replacing the bedroom alarm but 2 years seems like quite a short life span for it developing a fault so now I’m worrying it’s could be something to do with the wiring!
Are hardwired smoke detectors more sensitive for false activations or more likely to develop faults? In an ideal world I’d love to upgrade to the google nest smoke alarms but it would be super pricey buying 8 🤦🏻♀️
