Do I have to tell motor insurance I've had a child?

Just a random one really..when I first got insured with the company a few years ago they asked if I had any dc under 16 - I didn't. I'm due my first in a few days!😆

Do I call them and let them know I've had a child?
Is it likely to make my insurance price go up?🫣

It honestly depends on your insurers. Premiums are rated daily on over a hundred factors. You will find some insurers are cheaper when you have children under 16 as they have less claims involving vehicles with drivers who have children while others will have more claims. Children can be a distraction in the car so that is also considered as a risk, so there will be other ratings based on the incidents involving vehicles with child passengers.

Any adjustment you make mid term will incur a fee regardless. Unless you are really lucky and have an insurer that let's you do that free online.

The only way to check based solely on today's ratings is to run two quotes for having and not having children.

ETA The only time you'd need to legally tell them mid term that you've had a baby is if you are restricted from driving after a c section for 3 months or more, you need to inform the dvla too. Highly unlikely scenario but it is the only legal one.
