I’m not sure if it’s my job, my age, or both, but this winter feels like it’s dragging on forever. By the time I get home, I’m completely drained—I cook, do the dishes, then spend the rest of the evening in a vegetative state until I finally give in and go to sleep. I have zero motivation to go out or do anything because, first, I’m exhausted, and second, I find a lot of people in society today insufferable. I don’t know if it’s just a seasonal slump or something that comes with age, but I genuinely hate being around strangers in places like pubs or restaurants. People just seem like complete idiots, and honestly, I’d rather just hibernate or escape to an island away from everyone.

Magnesium: I use a spray, forget the brand and can’t check until DD has stopped THRASHING and just bloody SLEEPS. I’m longing for bed more than usual as I’ve got a godawful debilitating virus. Anyway the spray is nice as it’s one less pill to take when you feel like you’re rattling, and forms part of a nice going-to-bed ritual. Tingly on your skin in the best way.

I am heartily sick of this bloody cold, dark, freezing, chilly, foggy, damp cold cold February, actually wouldn't mind the cold so much, I just want some sunshine !!

Totallybannanas · 15/02/2025 20:27

I too, look forward to the weekends. But when it comes around I'm fit for nothing, and don't do anything that I had planned to do. Unless I've booked something in advance, which always seems a good idea until it comes around and then I instantly regret it, then I don't go out any more.

Me! But I am pregnant and taking xonvea for sickness which has terrible sleepy/drowsy side effects. But at the mo I’m napping when I get home from work from 5-6.30 and still then sleeping from 9.30pm-7am and I’m STILL exhausted! Hoping Spring gives me some energy back!

Allywill · 15/02/2025 22:08

i’m 58, since xmas i’ve been permanently exhausted and i don’t even have the excuse of small children running me ragged. i do have elderly parents though who take up at least a couple of evenings a week plus organising and taking them to hospital/doctors appointments etc. i work full time and also do a volunteering role a couple of days a month so i am busy but not a lot has changed. i don’t think the weather/ dark nights help. Am hoping I will find more energy in spring. maybe i need a holiday.

Same, I just find myself on the sofa watching tv under a blanket ! Can't get motivated to do anything round the house.

Has anyone found anything that helps?!

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 22/02/2025 17:50

To the people that are mentioning vitamin d can you take vitamin d as well as a daily multivitamin or would that be too much?

Moorfellduck · 22/02/2025 18:40

It's very easy to become apathetic when you are feeling off par - believe me I know. But it is not normal to be bone tired a lot of the time. My DH was like this and discovered he had a very underactive thyroid.

To all of you feeling this way go and get some bloods done at the GP - at least that will rule out some things ( ferritin, thyroid etc). I'm 50, work full time and don't feel like this so feeling tired all the time is not something you just have to accept.

Wildflowers99 · 22/02/2025 18:45

Yes me too OP. We have 2 children age 5 and 2, and this winter has been so LONG. Endless days cooped up inside as it lashes down outside, me shouting an endless repeat of ‘leave him/her alone’ ‘put that back’ ‘get down’ ‘please don’t climb on me’ over and over and over. I’m sick of the sound of my own voice. My youngest is going through the nursery bugs so we’ve picked up the odd D&V/cold and every time it takes me ages to bounce back from them. When we do get out and about it’s usually me struggling against the freezing wind with a buggy, trying to jolly my older child along. I feel tired, haggard, and pretty low in my mood a lot of the time.

I just crave warmth, sunshine, peace, relaxation. But let’s face it that’s a pipe dream

What is wrong with us all?
Why are so many of us so bloody tired and exhausted?
People of all ages have replied here, we can't all be menopausal!

I do wonder if there's a lot of us with a low grade Long Covid fatigue. I've never experienced so many people feeling permanently utterly exhausted...

I think it’s low vitamin D due to the weather getting more and more anticyclonic and working from home meaning we’re seeing less light of day than ever. I really should start supplementing properly.

Littleelffriend · 22/02/2025 19:18

@Taytocrisps why on earthy are you doing this? Of course you’re knackered

Wildflowers99 · 22/02/2025 19:21

Whenim63 · 15/02/2025 07:41

Why do you assume that people are doing nothing to improve their situation? I eat really well, exercise every single day and prioritise sleep. I’ve had bloods done. I’m still totally knackered and fucked off with everything 🤷‍♀️

Could it be a form of mental exhaustion? Our lives seem to have gone bonkers over the last 20 years, brains wildly overstimulated by technology, constantly switched ‘on’, a bombardment of admin duties, constant messages, life busier than ever.

Meltedcandlewax · 22/02/2025 22:46

I do wonder if some of it is a sort of delayed trauma from that time. Also all the constant really terrifying news. It’s just war, war, war , nutters running countries, hostages, war war war. Crazy people going on the rampage. War, war, war. No such thing as a woman. Everything costs a fortune. I feel like I’m living in an alternative universe.

Totallybannanas · 22/02/2025 23:11

Yeah, work is probably more stressful as less staff, increased workloads. No switching off at home, no work/life balance. Can't afford weekends away, holidays, dining out. It's is literally work, ear, sleep and repeat plus all the other crap that we have to do. I'm fucking knackered now and not even 50. How the hell am I going to work to 67 plus years. I will probably wish myself an early death so I can bloody rest!
