How do you complain about a Trusted Trader company, when they've used a 3rd party to do the work?

I'm so pissed off. I used a company listed in our local Trusted Traders ' leaflet. They arranged for someone to come round the next day. I had a problem with the guy's work ( I'm not going into details, it's too complicated), but when I phoned the company to complain, they said that, because it was an independent contractor I contacted to try and rectify the problem, they said it was nothing to do with them.

I don't understand how a company, who is listed as a Trusted Trader can just outsource the work to a self employed contractor, and then take no responsibility when things go wrong, and just wash their hands of the whole thing? Am I wrong? I really don't know what to do? I really want to complain about this company.

Surely your contract was with the original Trusted trader?
I once had a workman who was sub contracted by the company I had initially asked to do the work, and it was the original company I dealt with and paid

Yes I contacted TT, who they said they would send someone out. There was then a problem, so I called the mobile number of the person that had come out. The report that he then emailed me contradicted what he'd said to me in person. When I contacted the TT company, they said because I'd contacted this person directly, that this was not there problem!

And yes, I did pay the TT company.

Your contract is surely with the company you paid the money to, not the contractor. They need to follow it up.

The issue I've got is when I contacted the company we booked the work through, they said that, because I phoned the guy who did the work for us to fix the problem( who I've since discovered is an independent contractor), and it's him who sent us the report, with his company name ( not the TT name), that this is not their problem to sort out!

If that makes sense...

I agree. And they didn't say they were using an independent contractor when I booked the work. But they've washed their hands of it and now it's costing us £800 to fix it.
