Can someone explain the difference and help me understand the effects of low levels?

My iron is low (24) & gp told me to take supplements, which I can't due to a history of serious IBD & bowel surgery.

I have other chronic health conditions which cause crippling fatigue & weakness so its really important to manage all contributing factors. My consultant has also told me he wants me treated for iron deficiency as soon as my levels start to drop (but didn't inform my gp).

Last time my levels dropped I had an iron transfusion but I'm now being blocked from having one due to deficiency not being severe enough. Having ferritin tested again so trying to get a clearer understanding of the differences between the two so I can hopefully build my case for a referral.

Did once know but major brain fog right now...

If your haemoglobin is ok it's quite possible they won't give you anything. My ferritin is 6 and they won't treat it. Like you,I cannot take the iron tablets they keep pushing, due to ibd and sickness. And am aftaid it is not helping with my other illnesses.
Try the ferroglobin tablets or liquid? They seem not to affect me. Also, make sure you have vit c alongside iron containing foods. And tea etc affects the absorbtion.
Although, I have been doing all this and my levels are not moving. My body simply does not seem to absorb it
