Apple Watch Users - how low does your heart rate go?

I feel fine so I am not sure if this is a measuring error with the watch or is really happening to my heart. I never get any low heart rate notifications but I think you only get those if your heart rate is consistently low for 10 minutes.

Several days a week my heart range shows a low of 40bpm. The time it records the 40bpm could be any time when I am awake 8am, noon, 6pm, 10pm. I haven't noticed it being recorded while I am asleep. I have attached a photo of my heart measurements from Sunday at 6pm till 7pm. The measurements were 70-75bpm but then one outlier is only 40bpm.

Does anyone else have blips like this on their heart data? I had a medical recently where they checked for atrial fibrillation for 1 minute and it didn't find anything. Do you think this is an Apple measurement issue? I always wear the watch tight on my wrist. I don't want to waste my GPs time of it is a regular Apple issue.

Just checked, and occasionally it does. I had no idea. Mine just look like the odd blip. My resting rate is just under 50, normal, range on a non-exercise day is 45-110ish. Recent ecg and general work up showed no concerns. I’m 66.

I sometimes get that, I don't think it's anything to worry about, loads of people get it.

I switched to an Apple Watch at Christmas. My resting heart rate is generally low to mid 50s, whereas with my previous Fitbit it was low to mid 60s. Today it ranges from 43 - 126 (the 126 is walking up a hill carrying a laptop and various other work related gubbins).

My RHR today is sitting at 63 which is the highest I have seen since I got the watch, and probably reflects the fact I have a cold and feel quite grotty.

I’ve not had my heart rate checked at the doctor in years, but got the pharmacist to check BP late last year and she deemed it “perfect”.

Thanks for the responses. I am not worried about it as I feel well but then when I see how frequently it happens I think how your heart is crucial for life and what if it is a sign of something and I ignored it. Hence why I was asking if other people have it too.

I had an alert that my resting rate had gone up from about 64 to 70, when I checked it happened on the day I bought a new Apple Watch so I just use it as a rather general guide.

That sounds a bit like when you get a new pair of scales and they tell you you weigh 3lbs more than the old scales did!

I has this notification on my Apple watch the other night just whilst sitting watching TV. Should I be concerned and go to GP or keep an eye on it? It’s the first low heart rate one I’ve had. I actually felt quite relaxed but then a bit stressed and worried after the notification and felt a bit light headed.

The image was a warning saying my heart rate was below 50 bpm for over 10 minutes.

I get very low rates overnight when asleep, down to 30. It's 48-53 during the day while sitting down.

BUT.... I have Atrial Fibrillation and take Beta Blockers to slow it down so that's different to a low rate for no reason I suppose!

Anyway at first I got notifications so often that I turned the damned notifications off, they were scaring the hell out of me.

Cardiologist is not one bit worried about a rate of 30 at night or around 50 during the day, as long as it goes up on activity during the day, which it does.

I'd get it checked out if it is constantly low, just to put your mind at rest, but it won't kill you either. It's called bradycardia but you might know that already.

valder · 06/03/2025 21:20

I just checked there and it's 41bpm. I am sitting down. I'll check it again after running up the stairs and will report back..

Yep just ran up and down the stairs to experiment, and it's now 69bpm.

BTW I'm no spring chicken at 67, but even with the low HR I walk miles, never nap, sleep well and am rarely tired. So I don't worry about it.

Fridayfeeling77 · 06/03/2025 21:58

Thanks both.

Perfectly normal for me. It can fall under 40 when I’m asleep. Even when I’m walking about it’s only in the mid 50s most of the time.

Here’s my today stats.

I have very low blood pressure which is linked apparently. Hale and hearty with no health conditions though. Just have to stand up slowly or it’s a wild ride Grin.
