DD's Colposcopy Results help anyone?

Can anyone give me any advice on my dd's colposcopy? She's 22, with mental health conditions and is spiraling. Just over a year ago she noticed her discharge was different and a few other symptoms. She visited the sexual health clinic and, over the course of a few months had various tests, some repeated, everything negative. She asked repeatedly for a smear and was refused and her doctor was extremely dismissive. At my insistence she visited her GP who also refused a smear, but referred her to Gynaecology.

She finally got an appointment at the beginning of December and the gynaecologist was very supportive, made her feel listened to and did a smear. It came back with abnormal cells/HPV and he arranged a colposcopy. However he told her he was leaving this hospital so she would be passed to another consultant. At the colposcopy appointment the new gynaecologist was really dismissive, asked several times if she'd gone private for the smear, and said with her symptoms he wouldn't have given her a smear either because she'd had the HPV jab and she was too young for cervical cancer.

He did the colposcopy and took two biopsies. Here's what she's struggling with, she's received a very brief email saying that she has shown past HPV and that her GP needs to give her another smear in 12 months. He has also told her that she is to be recalled in six months for another colposcopy and biopsy. Does anyone know why? I can't really find any answers on the internet and she's really upset as she had a hard time with whole biopsy and is terrified to have it done again.

When I was diagnosed with HPV and abnormal cells (also in my 20s), they biopsied them during the colposcopy, which basically removed them. I was then moved on to 6 monthly smears. I think that was basically because everything abnormal was removed when they biopsied and while the cells were abnormal, they weren’t so abnormal that anything else needed doing other than keeping an eye on it.

I think I may have had abnormal cells on my next smear or two, but I didn’t have another colposcopy. My smears went back to normal after that and have been normal ever since (I’m 44 now). My HPV tests are negative so that cleared itself as well. I would just ring back and ask for an explanation. It’s weird they are doing another colposcopy in 6 months but smear not for 12, but maybe it’s because the smear just primarily tests for HPV and they want to give it time to clear.

Thanks for the reply. I've told her to ring for clarification so she's got a list of questions now, I just feel a bit uneasy about his disbelieving attitude. I had the same myself in my 20's and had treatment, no reoccurences since, it's just the lack of info from him. She made it quite clear how worried she was so receiving an email with just 2 sentences is pretty poor imo.
