To think the Chancellor is a bit of a Chancer

Seems like she is telling lies about her experience and previous work. And an enquiry into her expenses claims at one of her previous jobs. . And Labour supposed to be better than the Tories. Cant stand her anyway so I hope she will soon be out. This is all on BBC news tonight.

No, actually. I don't think she is a chancer. I think she is in the unenviable position in being (a) female, and (b) in a senior position in a Government that is not aligned with the media barons. It bears no comparison to the last lot (a low bar, admittedly)

Viviennemary · 13/02/2025 18:44

Why has she felt the need to lie about her previous work record. It shows a lack of integrity.

Meadowfinch · 13/02/2025 18:48

She clearly isn't as qualified as she claimed.

Lying about your experience when the job you apply for is Chancellor of the Exchequer is a spectacularly stupid thing to do. It is that foolishness that worries me. She doesn't have basic common sense and she doesn't understand economics. There must be someone better, in the parliamentary Labour Party.

I hope Labour is already searching for her replacement, for all our sakes.

IdaGlossop · 13/02/2025 18:54

I don't think she's a chancer. I do think she is naive about the needs of business and how to create economic growth. Her excuses about her LinkedIn profile sound lame; she's laying blame on her team (always bad management) and should have approved something as important as her own profile. It's not looking good for Labour on the standards in public life front - fraud (Louise Haigh), dubious finances (Tulip Saddiq), lying about your career experience (Rachel Reeves), racism, anti-semitism & being nasty to pensioners (Andrew Gwynne). A bit of a mess.

Sarahconnor1 · 13/02/2025 18:57

I think she has been less than honest about her career history.

The curious thing is this story has been doing the rounds for ages, but is really starting to ramp up now. So is someone briefing against her.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 13/02/2025 19:01

At least she has some kind of economic qualifications. I can't remember one former Chancellor with the same. The right wing press have their claws out for her. They came up with the 'Rachel from accounts' shit. As for the BBC using license fees to investigate her CV, ffs!

dontcallmelen · 13/02/2025 19:11

Definitely not as much of a chancer as some of the previous conservative incumbents anyone remember Zahawi(sp?) forgot to pay millions in tax or the other ejjit how helped trash the economy Kwarteng probably many others I would imagine, agree with pp someone has an agenda not sure if it’s the press/BBC or her own party though.
Labour should also know better, they are always always held to much higher standards than the conservatives, which I never understood is it because they are perceived as our “betters” really would love to know the reasons why they mostly lied rinsed the taxpayer in so so many ways yet RR is a chancer.

toooldforbrat · 13/02/2025 19:18

Wasn’t aware that you applied to be chancellor?

she’s an elected MP , then took up shadow ministerial positions appointed by party leader, then appointed when in Govt.

Wasnt Sunak chancellor and ‘forgot’ his wife was non dom!

Rummly · 13/02/2025 19:18

Reeves has dug her own political grave with her mendacious boasting.

”Rachel from Accounts” was coined by MPs, not the media. Reeves earned the label herself - and it is also quite funny.

I genuinely don’t see why it’s supposedly misogynistic. If she’d been a he, say David Reeves, it would “Dave from Accounts”.

You can be damn sure that Labour would have been saying the same about a Tory chancellor in her position.

Feelingstrange2 · 13/02/2025 19:23

Well Jeremy Hunt had failed businesses.

Funny that being a bloke it was never mentioned.

(I should add I've nothing against JH particularly- but he's never been held to the same account).

I think it was Lee Anderson who came up with Rachel from Accounts. It misogynist and I told myself off for laughing when I first heard him say it.

31stJune1973 · 13/02/2025 19:26

It shows a lack of intelligence that she chose to lie in ways that would quickly and easily be uncovered.

Did she get contextual? 😉

Because what she's doing points to a clear lack of economic credentials.

Edited to add - none of the previous ones did the same level of damage as she's doing now. Before you shout "Liz the Lettuce" - what she did was reversible and she was removed nearly instantly. This one is going to leave permanent structural damage which is close to impossible to reverse

nearlylovemyusername · 13/02/2025 19:39

Did you ever notice that the only defence to Labour is "yes but Tory was even worse".

Do you actually see any positive in them? apart from not being Tory? Because if not, we'll have Nigel from somewhere in 2029

EasternStandard · 13/02/2025 19:57

I feel like you've written a copy editor's headline with that title op

Not as much as Rachel. She has no idea how to create budiness growth, she's done plenty to inhibit it though.

Whatever you think of Jeremy Hunt, surely the important point of difference here is that he didn’t lie about his CV?

snookiesnax · 13/02/2025 23:48

There has to be a better way of governing a country than this ridiculous shitshow from all politicians, regardless of their political party.
Can't Norway take us over or something? The Baltic states seem sensible.

Anyone?.......😩

Viviennemary · 14/02/2025 09:22

It even got raised last night on question time. I think she should be sacked. Even without this she is a pain in the neck. And so full of herself. Awful woman. But I dont like KS either. Only thing good about them is they're better than Liz Truss. Which wouldn't be hard.

OP posts:
CatDogGuineaPig · 14/02/2025 09:25

The month of when she left a job was wrong on her LinkedIn entry and someone in a previous job thought she and two colleagues spent too much on a work meal (rhe company never found anything wrong).

If after all the digging that's what the investigative reported found I'd say she's pretty clean.

The "story" is a distraction and a waste of time. I imagine a lot of the BBC presenters are a bit embarrassed about having it in the headlines.

rwalker · 14/02/2025 09:31

Personally I’m not bothered about the fact she’s bullshitted on CV with in reason we all polish our employment history

but was does bother me is the hypocrisy and fact they’ve spent years on the sidelines kicking off about stuff like this painting themselves whiter than white and if this would of been a Tory last year you’d hear the outraged screams from space about lying and demanding they step down or are fired

SidekickSylvia · 14/02/2025 09:33

Why is Reeves being compared to Truss? Truss wasn't Chancellor, under her leadership it was Kwarteng. So the economy being a mess under Truss, was Truss' fault, but under Starmer, it's Reeves' fault. Surely the correct comparison would be Starmer/ Truss or Reeves/Kwarteng, not the two women.

Freysimo · 14/02/2025 09:42

It's interesting that the BBC has chosen now to run with this. Hasn't it been on social media for a while? I'm guessing Starmer wants her out and is using stealthy means, i.e. briefing the BBC, so he's got a good excuse. Not that he wouldn't have known all this. If he didn't, he should have.

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 09:45

Why wasn't her CV / resume looked at a lot more throughly prior to her becoming the shadow chancellor ?

peanutbuttertoasty · 14/02/2025 09:49

Her policies are all you need to understand her (lack of) fitness for the job. She’s an economic wrecking ball.
