Progress update..

Curtains changed to black velvet
Door handles and drawers knobs painted gold
Frames above bed changed to gold and bigger

Lampshades on order to change to black.

Now I need help with the blind, Dunelm have some blackout roller blinds for £20 which is perfect for my budget! Now to choose either black, or go natural shade (cream) with a view to changing the pink to a stone colour later this year 🤷🏻‍♀️

Duvet cover will be changed after that.

Do you need blackout blinds if you have heavy velvet curtains? Won't they blick the light sufficiently?

heldinadream · 13/02/2025 18:05

Oh hey well done great start! Black velvet curtains are lovely, bold to go for black but they look really sumptuous.

Looking forward to seeing what duvet covers you choose.

Yes need a blackout blind ideally as in winter I don't close the curtains to allow more heat from the radiator, in summer the curtains get used.

I'm looking at a couple of duvets which I like..

Just need help on deciding the colour of the blind 🤷🏻‍♀️

That makes a big difference
The room looks " softer"
Well done OP

I like the second duvet cover. Well done, looking good

Normallynumb · 13/02/2025 18:55

Yes I like the George one.
It picks out the pink tones
Their bedding is decent and washes well too

Normallynumb · 13/02/2025 18:57

If you're the poster I think you are, your DS's room looked brilliant!

Londonmummy66 · 13/02/2025 18:58

If you change the duvet then match the blind to the contrast colour in the duvet - so either the rose pink or the salmon pink in the George one.

I wouldn't change the duvet covers - just get a dark throw to add a bit of texture - something like this would be ideal https://www.next.co.uk/style/su069191/649063#649063

I agree with this advice. I would go for a plain duvet if you change it.

Update!!!

So I've covered the headboard and changed the lampshades and blind.

Now I want to soften the room. What's next?

Loving all your help and tips so please keep them coming as I'm bloody rubbish at all this!

I really want to change the duvet cover and make the room a little softer

Duvet cover is fine - you just need a dark thrown on the bed and that will soften the room for you

Onrepeat3milliontimes · 15/02/2025 18:10

I was thinking more of a pink throw on the bed to soften it? I'm not sure I want anymore black

SquawkerTexasRanger · 15/02/2025 18:13

Pink throw would be perfect and maybe a pink rug with some texture
