I've never gone line-by-line before in my bank statement before

Just thought you'd all want a nosey 👀

Food: £337.15 (mid week top-ups)

Coffees/cafes: £181.30

Lunches and dinners out: £242.43

DC: £4,550 (this includes school fees broken down to a monthly number, lunches, weekends with DC like Harry Potter world as an example, kids activities like gymnastics etc, paid for by term but broken down to the month)

Beauty: £1301.20 (waxing, Botox, hair colour, etc)

Shopping: £216.39 (new ballet slippers for DC etc)

Misc. £545.27 (things I had no idea what they were on the line item)

Private dental work: £981.63

DH pays rent, bills, running the cars/petrol, insurances, date nights, nights out, holidays, savings, weekly "big shop" and everything else.

It’s really grim there are so many nasty posts about the OPs looks and appearance. That’s bottom feeding.

I for one wasn't seriously suggesting that OP actually looks like Les Dawson in drag.

Just wondering what you must look like in the first place to actually NEED to spend that much on beauty each month (to look average), rather than just enjoying the many pampering treatments that a very high salary can buy you - as I'm sure must be the case with OP.

Twillywoowooo · 13/02/2025 10:03

I find it quite interesting to read OP’s post. I should go through my monthly spending and see how much I spend on tat and unnecessary bits and pieces. Might open my eyes. My take home is a bit less than OP’s because a good chunk goes into pension and work share schemes first so would be surprised if OP isn’t doing this too.

However I earn my own home and also try to save 3/5 of take home pay. Still leaves enough for bits and pieces and contributing to the household bills. However my beauty treatments are limited to monthly tretinoin prescription, few pieces of cheap make up and occasional home dye 😀. Everyone has different priorities and if OP is not in debt or on benefits (probably has private healthcare), what does it matter?

knitnerd90 · 13/02/2025 10:00

This has to be a wind-up surely? I'm not a frugal misery guts who puts the heating on 15C and eats beans on toast while saving every last penny, but spending all that and not even covering main expenses or saving or...? I like to live comfortably (my current extravagance is not thinking about the cost of eggs as they have gone mad here) but not only would I not spend that, I certainly wouldn't post it like this!

I can't imagine paying for private schooling and not saving for a house deposit unless the situation were dire (e.g. child absolutely miserable at state school/not properly catering for disabilities and council unwilling to fund special school).

Did you miss that she is an expatriate and therefore state school and buying a house may not be suitable?

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

knitnerd90 · 13/02/2025 10:03

If I were in that situation we'd surely be saving from both, and probably not spending on private education. Instead she's continuing to rent as prices rise.

GreenFingersHelp · 13/02/2025 10:04

Completelyjo · 13/02/2025 09:57

Why are you posting on it, multiple times, if you don’t care?

I thought that was obvious.

I don't care about her and how much she earns or spends at all- some anon poster.

I do care that someone can't see how potentially offensive it is and hope she may read and understand.

Growlybear83 · 13/02/2025 10:04

@Completelyjo I wouldn't normally bat an eyelid at anyone who is a high earner, and certainly don't begrudge people for having much more money than most other people. But this poster DOES have a very ugly approach to life if they can start a thread like this. What is the point of boasting that they spend more than many people's entire monthly income on beauty treatments? Or that she spends a ridiculous amount on coffee and school fees every month? Does it make the OP feel good that she is so incredibly self obsessed that she either doesn't realise or doesn't care that countless thousands of people are struggling to make ends meet and living hand to mouth each month?

Crazybaby123 · 13/02/2025 10:05

This doesnt make sense.
Noone can work full time, have kids and also have the time to manage to spend 1300 on beauty, 250 on cafes, days out, harry potter world etc. I work full time and even if I earned this much it would be impossible to find the time to do all of these things.
I think this post is someones manifestations of an ideal janauary not a real spending list.

SpryUmberZebra · 13/02/2025 10:05

Linens · 13/02/2025 09:25

LOL at everyone who pretends to find it boring!
If threads are that boring and dull I just click off them not scroll through four pages to say they are boring.
Watching high earners spend money is a staple of every form of entertainment since entertainment began. People love it.

You really think this is true? 😂

Shes so rich and beauty enhanced that she needs validation from mumsnet.

knitnerd90 · 13/02/2025 10:06

Fine about the buying (though expatriates regularly do it) but she's an expat in the UK from the sound of it, so it's not as if she's in Dubai where she can't. And again, I would still be saving in preparation for returning to my home country.

Ankhmo · 13/02/2025 10:07

This is a grotesque brag about pissing away the kind of money that many people could only dream about.

Wealth is wasted on some people.

Phase2 · 13/02/2025 10:07

Oh I thought this might be interesting, I keep track each month in what I spend via excel so was thinking it would be good to see. Never mind!

Watermelonsugarcube · 13/02/2025 10:07

Oh just fuck off

lentilbake16 · 13/02/2025 10:07

Do you still go to the toliet in the same way as other humans?

Do you ever show any type of desire to help your fellow humans?

What were you hoping to achieve by this post?

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 13/02/2025 10:08

JHound · 13/02/2025 09:59

I need tips from you. My groceries are about £100 more than yours and my eating out bill double and I am a single woman living alone. I am doing something incredibly wrong….!

OP was only counting top-up food shops and eating out in the calculations.

The sum doesn't include the cost of the 'big shop' at F&M/Waitrose/Tesco/Lidl/Farm Foods, which is presumably a lot more money on top of that.

EffortlesslyInelegant · 13/02/2025 10:09

Your breakdown is contempt-worthy. I spend that much a week! Easily £500 on coffee alone and let's not even go there with the cake.

Bananalanacake · 13/02/2025 10:10

I bet you don't need botox really. Could you save money on waxing by using a shaver on your legs.

Completelyjo · 13/02/2025 10:11

GreenFingersHelp · 13/02/2025 10:04

I thought that was obvious.

Edited

Why is it offensive for people to have different incomes and spending habits?

HornyHornersPinger · 13/02/2025 10:11

Wow, exactly how ugly are you that you need to spend over 1k a month on 'beauty'...??

SpanielsSunflowersSand · 13/02/2025 10:12

I am clearly in the minority but I love posts like this. I am probably a bit nosey but also think we all should stop being so British. People are acting like everyone has to be on the breadline.

No doubt you and your husband work hard, have made sacrifices and continue to do so to provide for your children. The numbers are just different.

destiel00 · 13/02/2025 10:13

Lordy...
I thought my spend at the local deli last month was high at £50! 😃

DoraDont · 13/02/2025 10:14

Imagine feeling that you need to spend that much money a month to look ok. I actually feel a bit sorry for you.

SpanielsSunflowersSand · 13/02/2025 10:15

The OP has shared a small snippet of her family’s monthly ongoings (she clearly states her husband pays for a larger portion of their bills). Why have you assumed they don’t as a family, donate to worthwhile causes?

RosesAndHellebores · 13/02/2025 10:15

We have high incomes @user263758918. That doesn't mean I gratuitously fritter £3.5k up the wall on tosh every month. We worke(ed) hard for it and look after it to preserve our children's futures.

Completelyjo · 13/02/2025 10:15

DoraDont · 13/02/2025 10:14

Who said it was a “need”?
Do you never do things or spend money on yourself because you want to but because you feel you “need” to?

LoveFridaynight · 13/02/2025 10:16

It's bad taste of boast about how much money you have. Especially when there is a COL crisis and some parents can barely afford to feed their kids.
I mean obviously up to OP if she wants to fritter her money away but I can't believe anyone spends £500 but doesn't know what they spent it on. That's absolutely ridiculous!
