For @Doggymummar 😂

And for purposes of balance...

What, for you, is the ultimate 90s tune?
Again, it might not be your favourite, but what song embodies that decade in your opinion?

Everything I Do (I Do It For You) perhaps? 😆

Blue Boy, Remember Me

Marylou2 · 13/02/2025 00:43

Happy Mondays - Step on
Oasis-Champagne Supernova
The Verve- The Drugs don't Work

Tortielady · 13/02/2025 00:43

You Do Something To Me - Paul Weller
Smooth - Santana and Rob Thomas
Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn

paranoiaofpufflings · 13/02/2025 00:49

Robin S - Show Me Love
I didn't even like the song at the time it was out, but now it's the one that instantly transports me back to the 90s when I hear it.

Underworld - Born Slippy (from Trainspotting) I watched it and was at an age where it made a massive impression on me.

Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You from The Bodyguard soundtrack.

And quite a few from Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, but specifically Quindon Tarver's Everybody's Free.
Also Young Hearts Run Free is forever embedded with Mercutio at the Capulet's ball scene.
Lovefool is very 90s too.

Great songs!

Road Rage by Catatonia. I went to Cardiff uni and at the time, we'd see a lot of Welsh celebrities there just sat in the pub. Which Cerys Matthews was, one day. She was absolutely tiny.

@SomethingbutWhat I was more into Zac (gotta love a drummer) but have just had a Google and I would say Isaac has aged the best. Although Taylor's blonde highlights are much better than mine!

IsabelleSE19 · 13/02/2025 08:27

My era so I love loads of the pp suggestions but for me without a doubt it's
Step On by the Happy Mondays. Stunned that it hasn't been mentioned yet!

PeskyRooks · 13/02/2025 08:50

I just thought of another one that takes me straight back..
The female of the species is more deadlythan the male..

oh and I said what about breakfast at Tiffany's...and you're gorgeous I'll do anything for you...

Listened to Radio 1 a lot then, never do these days

It was on my list! My favourite, glad I'm not the only one.

@PeskyRooks The Female of the Species will always be the Cold Feet theme to me.

Massive love for Your're Gorgeous and Breakfast at Tiffany's though. Always thought it was odd both those bands were just one hit wonders. Guess they just peaked too soon.

Excellent list!

Don't think I've seen It's a fine day - Opus III yet?

Also there's no jungle/DnB? List is massive but classics that come to mind from that era/scene I'd say:

Brown Paper Bag
Super Sharp Shooter
Valley of the Shadows
Champion Sound
Stalker
Bad Ass
Original Nutter
Woman that rolls
Incredible

Such a brilliant decade for music!!

CatMum27 · 13/02/2025 18:29

Wonderwall but the Mike Flowers Pops version. Perfect combination of an era defining tune delivered in an utterly batshit style. Reminds you how crazy the decade was!

FlatErica · 13/02/2025 18:46

Pulp, Common People!

Lots of excellent suggestions- don’t think I’ve seen the Spin Doctors’ 2 Princes, or the Corrs’ Breathless yet

efeslight · 15/04/2025 22:12

Enjoying the recommendations,
think it has to be Common people for and Insomnia

The Spice Girls’ song "Wannabe" honestly changed my life. I’m from a small village in Japan, and one day in the '90s, I heard it in a commercial for a Now music album. That was it — I was instantly hooked. From that moment on, I became completely obsessed with British culture.
I started importing Smash Hits magazines — they were super expensive, but I didn’t care. I was determined. I worked long hours and saved every bit I could to make my dream of visiting England come true. And at just 16 years old, I finally made the journey all by myself.
Now, all these years later, I’ve built a life here. I met a handsome English man, and we’ve been together for 21 years. It’s amazing to think it all started with that one song I heard back in the '90s.
