What is THE definitive 90s song?

For @Doggymummar 😂

And for purposes of balance...

What, for you, is the ultimate 90s tune?
Again, it might not be your favourite, but what song embodies that decade in your opinion?

Everything I Do (I Do It For You) perhaps? 😆

Oasis - Live Forever

Cattery · 12/02/2025 15:29

Live Forever. Wonderwall.

PinkArt · 12/02/2025 15:44

Another vote for Common People. It's the pop in Brit Pop, it's got that sarky, cynical Gen X vibe, you can dance your tits off to it.

Whigfield Saturday Night

Faithless - Insomnia

Lyannaa · 12/02/2025 17:50

Yeah I agree with Common People. Also 'Don't look back in anger' by Oasis.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 12/02/2025 17:55

Gala Freed From Desire
Oasis Don't Look Back In Anger
And possibly deeply uncool but Mmmbop by Hanson always takes me straight back to the long, hot summer of 1997.

So long as you remember to raise your arms above your head at the end of the intro 😆.

purpleme12 · 12/02/2025 17:59

If I had to pick one I think I'd probably pick either Wonderwall or Don't Look Back in Anger

Squirrelsnut · 12/02/2025 18:02

Here We Go Again by Stakka Bo.

Thought of another that instantly transports you back:

Here Comes the Hotstepper - Ini Kamoze

Dontlletmedownbruce · 12/02/2025 20:26

I'm really struggling that some of these are from the 90s!!

I love that in early and mid 90s there were 2 very distinctive styles, dance and indie rock. I was a grunge girl and hated dance but funnily enough now it's the dance that evokes the strong nostalgic feelings, the indie stuff feels dated. So I've had to divide mine into the two genres.

Early 90s

  • smells like teen spirit, Nirvana v Rhythm is a dancer, Snap

Mid 90s
Common People v Set you free, N trance

Late 90s - mostly bubble gum pop, and pretty awful. Most definitive for me probably Angels by Robbie Williams.

Honeyroar · 12/02/2025 20:37

There are different genres for me.

Early 90s - Adamski - Killer. Depeche Mode - enjoy the silence. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit. Madonna - Like a Prayer
Mid 90s - Blur - Girls and Boys. Suede - Animal nitrate. Radiohead - Creep.

Dance 90s - Offshore - Chicane. Delirium -Silence.

Me too. But I think Wonderwall is probably the key one for most.
