What is THE definitive 90s song?

For @Doggymummar 😂

And for purposes of balance...

What, for you, is the ultimate 90s tune?
Again, it might not be your favourite, but what song embodies that decade in your opinion?

Everything I Do (I Do It For You) perhaps? 😆

Insomnia. At a high volume. 1995. Perfection.

Blind Melon : No Rain, great mellow summer song of the 90s, so many good memories attached to that song, love it.

I'd say Oasis. Toss up on which song, probably Wonderwall but maybe Cigarettes and Alcohol, just because it embodies the vibe of being young at the time.

SpringingInto · 12/02/2025 22:14

Black box ride on time was always dance floor filler
REM night swimming
Oasis cigarettes & alcohol
Faithless Insomina absolutely love this song & saw them at Ally Pally a few years ago it was full of folk in their 40s dancing.

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 12/02/2025 22:22

The Breeders - Cannon Ball.

Gala Freed From Desire
Oasis Don't Look Back In Anger
And possibly deeply uncool but Mmmbop by Hanson always takes me straight back to the long, hot summer of 1997.

I LOVED Hanson (still do have you seen Taylor Hanson now ??!!!)

FastFood · 12/02/2025 22:59

The first track that comes to mind for me is Born Slippy by Underworld.
And second would be Cannonball by The Breeders

PeskyRooks · 12/02/2025 23:00

Professional Widow by Tori Amos got it stuck in my head now!

spotzone · 12/02/2025 23:03

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 12/02/2025 23:14

Ahhhhh, when MTV was brilliant. Beavis and Butthead, The Real World, Headbangers Ball & 120 minutes ... I was into grunge but lived on a popular holiday island so loved going out dancing as well. Set you free was a fave, Space Cowboy, and D-ream, Things can only get better.

Yup. These guys have aged WELL. Also have really nice values!

SexAndCakes · 12/02/2025 23:24

Definitive 90s songs for me (not necessarily my own favourites) would have to embody Britpop (Parklife, Wonderwall, Common People), Girl Power (Wannabe), and the grunge era (Smells Like Teen Spirit). Also the bubblegum pop of early Britney (Baby One More Time) et al.

Happy times!
