Sheffield Park Square siege

Can’t believe it’s been going on for over 24 hrs now. And the chaos is causing in the city. Never realised there were that many armed police in Sheffield! Really hoping it ends peacefully.

Feel so sorry for everyone evacuated, I’d be frantic by now if I’d had to leave my cats stuck in my flat and couldn’t get back to feed them.

Its still going on now, its on tiktok live

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 12/02/2025 00:14

People had to leave their cats? Oh ☹️

ZenNudist · 12/02/2025 00:15

WTF has the guy got. Is he just holed up with guns etc or is it even more sinister? They haven't evacuated the area just the block. I wouldn't be keen to be inthe area even if "just" guns.

HolyPeaches · 12/02/2025 00:32

I work in Sheffield and have never seen traffic as bad as it was this morning. Absolute chaos everywhere.

Feel so sad for the residents unable to get to their flats and to their pets😓

CerealPosterHere · 12/02/2025 07:11

Yeah I was watching it on tiktok live last night. Is it still going on? BBC stopped their live reporting at 10pm last night and I can't find an update. Hoping the tiktokkers are back out soon.

I used to work in the city centre and drive in, so glad I don't anymore!

They would have drafted Police in from elsewhere too, like at Grenfell. When I weas walking about getting lost because the buses weren't running I asked a number of Police for directions and most of them came from elsewhere!

CerealPosterHere · 12/02/2025 07:16

According to tiktok he's been arrested and the road is open

Have heard nothing about this! Going to google.

That makes sense.

Thank you, I was going to ask if Park Square was open because I need to get there and it was a diversion all round the Manor last night.

VeryDeepEverything · 12/02/2025 07:21

Makes you wonder about his life.
It's only something you do if you are desperately unhappy.

Zonder · 12/02/2025 07:25

We didn't watch the news yesterday so I didn't know about this. Just did a search under Sheffield on the BBC app and absolutely nothing related came up.

Hallamlass · 12/02/2025 07:25

Derek Dooley Way is open. The police are still negotiating with the man, but the cordon is reduced.

Hallamlass · 12/02/2025 07:26

The people from Gateway flats have spent the night at Ponds Forge.

CerealPosterHere · 12/02/2025 07:27

eh54nm is the tiktokker on scene, he is saying was definitely arrested. No police on scene and he says roads fully open. There are cars going down and no cordon.

He's spoken to a police officer earlier who confirmed it was all resolved.

It's crazy that tiktok is better for up to date news than the bbc! 😁

I was thinking the same. The BBC news service is terrible.

Just what I was thinking.

@MaryBeardsShoes I saw a BBC article when I googled but my point is that it seems a pretty big news item not to be found in a search on the BBC News app.

I hope it's resolved now - it sounds horrific.

Well, it's not really crazy. He's there. There are hundreds of thousands of tiktokkers and some of them might be at the scene when things happen. Don't think the BBC can afford to station that many reporters around the country- and they probably want to verify events a bit- there's always a tradeoff between speed/checking accuracy.

Hallamlass · 12/02/2025 07:39

The BBC don't need to station someone there, they can just be in touch with a police spokes person. The BBC website is often out of date, I find.

FrutenGlee · 12/02/2025 07:40

The national broadcasters like the BBC shouldn’t be reporting live on someone’s mental health breakdown and attracting attention and crowds to turn up or call emergency services for information. Doing that adds strain and danger for local police ambulance and residents in an ongoing situation plus attracts crowds of gawkers, why would you possibly want that?

Traffic advice which presumably was available to keep people away is sufficient until the news is broken at a responsible time. There are also local emergencies going on all day every day that don’t make the news at all.
